BMW M50 engine minimum RON fuel rating

Postby areomanwah » September 26th, 2012, 11:10 pm

Good Night,

I have a BMW E34 with an M50 non-VANOS engine. I have always used premium gas (95), but was informed that I can use super (92). My mechanic says I can with the addition of a Liqui-Moly fuel treatment every three tankfuls or so. My research has turned up a mixed bag of results. Any info, thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

They can use super as well. I use super in the E39 and no problems.

The Liqui Moly fuel treatment is for injectors . you can try the Liqui Moly Octane Plus.

Octane Plus is designed to improve gasoline engine operation in areas where the octane rating (RON) is too low and causes engine knock, pinging, overheating and other problems associated with low octane gasoline. Raises the octane rating by up to 4 points. Contains no lead or other metallic-compounds that could harm catalytic converters.

Intended use

As additive treatment for all gasoline powered cars to increase performance and reduce problems of low-octane fuels. One can treats up to 50 l of gasoline.

Check your owner's manual for the lowest recommended RON for your engine.

That's about the best answer anyone can give you.
