Initially I would press the brake pedal slightly with good distance between me and a vehicle in front but would have to overcompensate nearer the vehicle as the braking force with pedal push didn't seem linear.
So I'd end up mashing hard brakes close to other cars as opposed to gradually slowing down.

There is an option called brake assist. The stock value was 0 with 1 being small and 2 being strong. I set it to 2 and now braking force is linear with the amount of pedal deflection.

I suspect it the Passat may either share the same control modules for this or the settings might be the same and can be adjusted.

now plugged in the vag cable an pulled this

Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 0AM-300-04x.lbl
1 Fault Found:
006012 - Clutch 2
P177C - 003 - Tolerance Limit Reached - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100011
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 120
Reset counter: 10
Mileage: 26626 km
Time Indication: 0

gonna clear it and see if it come up again, guessing it was stored previously
kinda weird as the car is stock.

I've seen errors for things I didn't notice before. I once saw a misfire error once but the fault frequency was 1...I don't know how to interpret 120 though. What's your mileage now?

Edit: that error doesn't seem to be one stored from a while back. That mileage is close to your current mileage so it just "recently" happened...

Guys.... can VCDS do diagnostics like what the dealer does when "scanning" the car?

Also is there any way to tell if software/firmware updates have been done to the cars at services.... eg version numbers etc?

Control modules will carry a software number that vcds can read. You would have to have a baseline scan as reference to see if the dealer did any future software updates.

Vcds can be used to scan a vehicle and also remove error codes.

Anyone does data logging via VCDS? I'm trying to find mass air flow readings to log along with engine speed. Is there a way to map the two to the same time scale?

check engine, measuring blocks, block 002 and field 4, it will be in g/s. Shouldnt be hard to find.

Group 115 will usually have RPM, just log the two fields together. Im not quite sure of the exact fields for the MED17 ecu readouts, but you can try that.

Things seem to have changed a bit. Measuring blocks for my engine is greyed out so I have to use "advanced measuring blocks".

In this section there aren't groups but a huge list of things to choose from. Can record 12 parameters at once and you can save your parameters to a preset so you don't have to build the list again in future.

Also mass air readings are in kg per hour now. Not a hard thing to convert in excel to grams per second.

Questions: when you recorded how often did vcds sample readings? Was it a consistent rate like every second or did it fluctuate? Also did the time stamp for each parameter match with one another? e.g. Were engine speed and mass air flow recorded at the exact same time interval?

Vcds can record 0-60mph times as well as 0-100 km per hour times along with quarter mile times as well. This data logging has a lot of info. There are things here I didn't know the car was even capable of measuring.

The time stamp fluctuates and doesn't record in exact increments such as every 1 sec etc. The list that your talking about in advance measuring blocks should have headings over each column "info 1, info 2, and location" the location is the group number.

If you log those fields within the same group it would show up under one time stamp, if you log fields within different groups they would show up in the same log spreadsheet but different time stamps representing each group. If you want to match the time stamps you can do a little interpolation, but the time stamps are all very close to warrant doing this.

Yes it can record your acceleration times provided the measuring block or advanced measuring values has speed in it. However the accuracy decreases with the more values your logging/measuring.
