LF: BMW E34 ECU or advice related to repair

Postby areomanwah » August 14th, 2013, 2:02 pm

Good Day,

I have an original BMW E34 MSport with the non-vanos M50 Engine. This week the coil pack on the #6 cylinder blew, causing the car to miss. Got a replacement coil pack, which was tested and was good, but # 6 was still missing. Checked and very weak spark, yet all other cylinders are firing normally. Research online is telling me that it is most likely a fried ECU. I have the Bosch Motronic 3.1, part # 0 261 200 403.

I am looking for someone who can repair the ECU, since I was informed that replacement ECUs will not work because of a coding issue( not sure how true this is).

Any advice or assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Did a scan confirm the ECU is bad?

It is always better to replace ECU than attempt to fix them due to the sensitivity of the circuit boards

Swapped in the ECU from Gool. Problem seems to be resolved. Monitoring the situation with fingers crossed. Would still like to attempt to have my original one repaired if possible though.

Also, should I change all the coil packs? Can't be changing ECU every time a coil pack blows. What do you guys think?
