This Flocking thing...

Postby shogun » March 9th, 2013, 4:20 pm

Sorry about ched title. I couldn't resist.

Anyone does this locally?

Thoughts?

What Is Flock?

Flock is precision cut lengths of nylon fibers. When applied by electrostatic means an attractive seamless fabric-like coating is created which can cover almost any surface inlcuding Aluminum, glass and plastics.

Flock has been around for years, technology and adhesives have improved so much that we see flocking more in our daily lives, printers use flock on T-shirts, perfume companies use flock in packaging, the automotive industry use flock for dashboards, glove boxes, ABC pillars and general interior components.

Almost any surface or object can be given a flock finish. The item or area has to be coated with a glue. The flock fiber is then charged electrostaticaly which causes the individual fibers to penetrate “end on” into the adhesive. This creates a high density pile effect of up to 150,000 fibers per sq inch, which gives a perfect flock velvet finish.

The flocking process involves applying short monofilament fibres, usually nylon, rayon or polyester, directly on to a substrate that has been coated with a 2pk adhesive. The flock process is carried out electrostaticaly, our flock application is both durable and permanent.

Advantages Of Flocked Surfaces

Flocking interior surfaces provides many advantages including:

- Reduced water condensation
- Thermal Insulation
- Noise Reduction
- Masking unattractive substrates
- Non reflective surface: Anti glare for dashboards
- Easy to clean
- Durable and long lasting

Consumers are also looking for something different and unusual for their car interior style, flocking gives a vibrant velvet look finish to any surface you flock, providing unique character to your car.

Repairs can be carried out to dashboards before flocking, so if yours has holes, cracks or marks in places you don't want, tell us and we can repair it and then flock over the repair for a seamless finish.

If done wrong, it could. I prolly wouldn't go for any outlandish colour. Black or a charcoal grey, would be noice.

Personally i think it'll cut down on that pesky glare and adds a lil interest to the interior, instead of looking at plastic everywhere....why not?
