A prisons officer is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate this morning, after he was charged by officers of the Organised Crime Narcotics Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) yesterday for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The officer, who has 27 years’ service, was arrested on Saturday around 1 pm outside the prison on Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain. OCNFB officers, who were acting on information, had cause to stop and search a parked vehicle, in which a prisons officer II was the lone occupant.
According to the police, the prison officer, who lives in Barataria, was about to exit the vehicle and start his shift in the jail. On conducting a search of the vehicle, OCNFB officers allegedly found a plastic bag containing 500 grammes of marijuana. They also found two cellular phones, chargers, 32 packets of cigarettes and five packets of wrapping paper. The prisons officer was subsequently arrested and taken to OCNFB offices, where he was charged.
