There were good times and horrible times when he was at bayern. One thing that stands out was that he was extremely stubborn. That formation with 3 central defenders could make or break many and if things head south I don't see van gaal reverting to a more conventional system. He will press it till it works. Even if it takes 2+ seasons

So he will have the opportunity to mould the side to his liking without much resistance like at Bayern. Problem is that I'm not too confident about the technical capabilities of the players in the side currently.
