Again, no fyahz geed in here...... hardly any R.I.P's ........ The fact that they smelled alcohol on the driver and assumed he was racing is overlooked, but I'm sure y'all would have assumed all of this otherwise even b4 the news reported so

That evidence will not hold up in court because it's a modified Rotary.. the smell of alcohol (meth) & speeding comes naturally

I believe under the constitution, if a news reporter does not say 'drag racing' he / she can be legally tied to a 4x8 sheet of ply and be run over by a modified steamroller until dead

This is correct.

RIP officer.
Good thing I didn't pass that way on my way home, I not bound to see that nah.
Reports in the dailies are relatively consistent except for the driver of the vehicle - he's either 21, 47 or 43 :? :? :? :?

there is a newspaper article that says the family of the driver visited the home of the officer and gave them $1000, they also offered to help in any way and alledgely claimed the car hit a pothole before slamming into Maynard, they were accompanied by officers in marked and unmarked police vehicles and a well known lawyer.
Incidentally Fitzgerald Hinds who seemed well acquainted with he situation and admitted being a friend and advisor to the driver's family called a radio station this morning to indicate that the money given was done in nobilty by the family and that a breathalyser test was administered, the driver remains in custody

$1000 in nobility for the killing of a family member.
nobility seems horribly undervalued imo

Well boy, put yourself in the situation - you now take a man life - das pressure.
I personally would try to do anything I can to try to somehow, someway help to ease the pain for the family (even though it is pretty futile).
Don't know how I'll gather the cojones to face the family, but I will.
Probably won't be able to live with myself knowing I took a man's life though...

In their shoes, I woul cover the funeral costs. It's the least they could do. $1000 is adding insult to injury.

they also offered to help in any way

This to me sounds like they mean financially.
But let's remember as well, this is a local paper and for all we know this never even happened.

On a side note, when I was workign in Tunisia, the law stated (and it's probably the same in most Muslim countries) that if I killed someone in a road accident, I have to support his family for the rest of my life...

Good post man.

Yes the fella caused the policeman's death. But at least as far as we know, that was not intentional. As far as we know, he didn't go out with the intention of killing the man.

And lets face it, while his actions / ill judgement might have brought this upon himself, he (driver) is still going to be a tortured soul right now, and may himself wish he was dead.

Who drives with the intention of killing anybody? But yet it happens so frequently.

Um, the INNOCENT policeman was minding his own business and he is the one dead....
RIP Officer....

Hey, don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to the family of the officer that died so unnecessarily.
But it also goes out to the person who has to live with the officer's death on his conscience for the rest of his life.

Was in a discussion with some friends the other night about this same situation and we all were in agreement at how easily it could have happened to any of us (to be the culprit OR the victim)
