Written by Simon Rodriguez and Sarah-Jane GopaulThe final weekend in March 2015 will bring the anxiously anticipated event that is Rally Trinidad, hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Rally Club. Now in its eleventh year, Rally Trinidad is the international leg of the club’s Annual Championship Series. The action launches at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain, on Friday 27th March and ends on Sunday 29th March in a super spectator stage.

In 2014, as part of the grand celebration of the 10th anniversary of the spectacular Rally Trinidad, Trinidad got its first taste of Irish rally talent ever to sample our gravel, the crowdpleaser, Frank Kelly and his beloved Mk2 Ford Escort, “Baby Blue.” Ireland is known for having classic old-school cars, driven by some of the sport’s greatest drivers who are famous for spending most of their time sliding sideways.

Baby Blue did not disappoint, leaving spectators with their mouths open, despite the dust. Frank afterward commented that he had totally enjoyed the twisty action packed gravel stages of south and central Trinidad. The extent of his delight has recently become evident with the announcement of the team’s intention to return for Rally Trinidad 2015, and Frank will be bringing friends!

He will be joined by Shane McGirr in a Toyota Starlet and Paul Fitzgerald in a Mk2 Ford escort. Both of these gentlemen have built quite a reputation for themselves, in both competition and style. The local 2wd teams will have their hands full trying to keep pace with the high speed “put it broad” driving style of the Irish.

The event will also host regional teams from Barbados, Jamaica and Suriname as well as T&T’s top teams.  The action happens in the North on Friday night, South on Saturday at Bronte and Tarouba and finishes off in Central on Sunday at Preysal and Milton Road, Couva.

^ no WRC confirmed as yet, however an interesting proposition being put forward is that the usual WRC drivers, Powell included, would be competing in Grp N. This would make for some really exciting rallying!

Alright we are less than 3 weeks away, what's the latest? Is there a confirmed list of drivers/cars? I see Scott Sheppard rolled his escort over the weekend gone, will it be ready for Rally Trinidad? Any times and directions for the stages?

I noticed the area used for the pits in Preysal is now fenced off, as in several acres......what the heck is going on?

Yeh, that's true I saw that on Saturday also. A huge area is fenced off, wonder how this will affect the spectators also.
