Also spoke to a pundit about this and I got the same answer.
Diwali is the 3rd of November 2013.
I do not agree with misleading the Hindu population just for the purpose of calling an election.

This is correct. In india it is held on both 2nd and 3rd depending on what state you live in. It is also supposed to be for 5 days from the 1 to 5 nov.

This is the day that the deyas are lit.
By declaring the day on the 2nd, the leaders of this country are misleading the population.
This is where the problem lies.
Explaining that the festival spans 5 days still does not change this fact.

They are not misleading the public as in india in some states it is held on the 2nd and some on the 3rd for this specific year.
