there is no sensor on the stock system.

Is the flexible tubing collapsing anywhere? or has a leak?

What the OP mistakes for the tach, is really a sensor unique to B14's. The reason these sell so well, is that the dash has a wireless module tied to the resale value of the vehicle. So the minor fluctuations are the actual resale value at that moment. OP, when your RVM (Resale Value Meter) peaks out, make sure and sell quickly at that price.

none.
MAF is in the throttle body itself. free to do anything with airbox and piping on these engines.
only consideration is the PCV vents into the stock airbox. but lots of alternatives for that if you so desire.
