free upgrade, not free OS. Buy a new computer and you will pay for it in the cost of the computer.bluesclues wrote:free ting. yeah.. hanzel and gretel comes to mind. am i the only one finds this move suspicious? why would they do this? where are they going to gain, because u know they must gain and win. after all these years of coding u gone give everyone an upgrade for free? riiiiight. microsoft feeling charitable with software all of a sudden?

bluesclues wrote:well windows 8 was definitely nonesense. nice appearance but impractical for anything other than "surface" applications with touchscreen support. never saw it as a personal desktop o/s. hardware manufacturers take too long to update their drivers for older devices etc. but i dont think it was as buggy as windows me(perhaps nothing ever will be).
just watched a few videos on windows 10. was not impressed. it's like windows 7 and 8 combined with a few aesthetic enhancements that really not worth the trouble to upgrade imo. unless u really really really need directx12 for whatever reason. but that is where me and microsoft have beef. this kind of thing where they abandon past users and dont create backward compatible software upgrades to force ppl to buy their new sheit is the part where i decide i will stay with windows 7. would still be on xp if i didnt need the new appsdk.. which only runs on windows 7.
as far as im concerned.. microsoft should just stop upgrading their user interface. they are obviously out of useful and innovative ideas that will create a practical user experience and seamless changeover to utilize older hardware. just improve memory handling. make code more efficient and give people the same interface. what they could or should do is separate these crap enhancements into individual programs u can choose to install or not if u want them. i dont even want that windows 8 start screen on my computer. basic start menu will do as i set all my systems to classic menu appearance anyway.
basically. i dont want it even though it's free. does not want. lol
Is there a catch? Here's the fine print from the Windows 10 page on Microsoft's site:
“It is our intent that most of these devices will qualify, but some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. ISP fees may apply. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise outside of this offer. We will be sharing more information and additional offer terms in coming months.”
jeez, by then even BLU might have a better product than hololensmaj. tom wrote:btw W10 may be released in October 2015.
