^ I brought in one earlier this year via skybox with no problems and I know many other people who did too. The 3 should be no different.

According to a calculator on a popular skybox site, it should cost no more than TT$3478 shipping, duty and VAT.

Cost of item on Amazon: US$1259
Shipping weight 9Lbs with extra battery.

CHARGES (TT$)
Duties 20% - $ 1,669.35
VAT $ 1,502.42
Freight $ 188.44
Fuel Charge $ 32.03
Insurance $84.24
VAT on Local Handling $ 0.75
Total Shipping Charges $ 3,477.23

Honestly I paid ~$800 with WebSource

I seriously doubt it will cost that much but that's the calculated cost.

Hey guys, just some information that i think you should consider, ATM, we have it really nice WRT the use of recreational Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV's) aka "Drones" considering the limitations and regulations other countries have adapted. But, Trinis tend to abuse some freedoms, and it would be disappointing to know that some measures be put in place directly in the response of an irresponsible user/operator. Hope the information below steers some users to safer flights:

hey guys,
i recommend any owners and opperators of drones call CAA and get your drone registered with them.
https://caa.gov.tt/

they will give you the rundown, the do's and dont's
and also a letter of permission to opperate your UAV.

No costs when I went to get it done. Just go with the necessary information: weight, max forward speed, serial number, model number and a form of identification. I actually carried my drone in case they wanted to inspect and verify the information provided was legit, but that wasn't done.

Entire process took approx one hour, but that was because of technical difficulties, and two drones were being registered so everything had to be done twice.

An "appointment" was made in advance though, so if you don't want to potentially waste the trip to TTCAA i suggest you call first and find out when would be best to go in.

AG: Drone regulation urgently needed
By Andre Bagoo Thursday, August 27 2015

ATTORNEY General Garvin Nicholas says there is an “urgent” need to regulate drones as these items may pose a threat to national security, but the matter may require Parliament action.

Speaking with Newsday, Nicholas said a planned meeting on Monday between staff in the office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel and the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Ramesh Lutchmedial has been re-scheduled for today.

Lutchmedial, in an interview in this week’s Sunday Newsday disclosed moves by the State to clampdown on the unmanned aerial devices which have in recent years become popular as professional tools and as means of leisure. He said regulations have already been drafted and are being considered by the office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel.

Nicholas said these regulations would, once approved, have to be tabled in Parliament, meaning no action can be taken until the Eleventh Parliament convenes.

“I have rescheduled that planned meeting to (tomorrow)” Nicholas said yesterday in a brief interview. “At the end of the day, what is being prepared is not legislation but it still may require approval depending on the legal ramifications. It cannot happen without the Parliament. While this matter is urgent it is not yet imminent.

But anything that has the possibility of posing a national security threat has to be taken seriously.” Some regulations require the negative or affirmative resolution of Parliament, while others may be issued under the direct authority of a minister depending on the scope of the rules and the governing statute.

Lutchmedial said the proposed regulations would introduce a scheme of certification and identification and all drones which do not comply will be deemed illegal. He said pending formal regulation, a temporary system of certification is in place at the civil aviation authority.

In April, the National Operations Centre expressed concern over the increased use of drones, also called unmanned aerial systems, by private owners.

Two persons attending a fete at San Fernando sustained serious head injuries in January 2014 when a drone fell on them

No drones over private property
Wednesday, June 15 2016

PERSONS who operate drones without a licence, will be fined $350,000 and imprisoned for five years, according to proposals drawn up by the Civil Aviation Authority to regulate unmanned aircraft systems. Persons will also be banned from using drones over private and public property, without permission.

However, usage for recreational purposes is allowed as long as the drone is less than 750 grams. Usage will also be permitted in some cases, such as under the auspices of clubs or the supervision of a pilot.

The Authority on Monday published a notice announcing the start of consultations on the proposed rules. Two consultation meetings are to be held this month: one on Thursday and another next week Tuesday at the Authority’s offices at the Caroni North Bank Road, Piarco, commencing at 5 pm.

According to the notice, the Authority is seeking to consult interested members of the public before submitting the regulations to Cabinet and Parliament.

The draft regulations propose to introduce a system of certification for drones. Additionally, the Authority will be given enforcement powers.

Under draft clause 45, “The Authority may take such actions as to ensure that persons operating unmanned aircraft systems comply with the requirements of these Regulations.” Where the Authority has determined that an operator has conducted an unsafe flight operation, the Authority may suspend or revoke any or all approvals, authorizations or certificates issued to him.

Further, under draft clause 47, “The use of an unmanned aircraft system with the intent to disrupt or endanger civil aviation or any public or private property shall attract a fine of three hundred and fifty thousand dollars and imprisonment for five years.” The draft regulations propose that the Authority be made to keep a Register of unmanned aircraft systems which shall contain record of each system.

Also, operators of systems will be banned from doing so if they have a medical condition which may interfere with their ability to operate an unmanned aircraft system or if they are under the influence of alcohol.
