why is my frontier clutch pedal soo hard??

Postby kevinsonny » January 6th, 2012, 9:32 pm

i have driven 4 frontiers in the past few months , and the rest were medium to soft , some including 4x2 and 4x4 , but when it comes to my van's clutch,, its more on the heavy side, i can barely press it down with my hands unless i use a good amount of effort, the van doing 253xxx and everything works great except for that clutch pedal, any help would be appreciated guys !!!!

If the Pedal is high up and hard then your clutch plate needs changing. If you have been driving it like this a while now, there is the possibility that your pressure plate will need changing to. 253K is about 1/2 the life of a deisel engine, so if the clutch and pressure plates were never changed, they need changing nw.

Avg Price for both will be around $1200 each. This is the price at ROC in the Bamboo, N&M will be much much more. ROC will have the geniune nissan parts, you can probably get substitute brands for cheaper somewhere else (Bobby's probably)

hey guys i got it back to normal . first i changed the clutch fluid then under the van there is a rubber covering the fork that engages the clutch i was informed to take out the rubber and spray the fork with wd40 , that did the trick. while you are spraying it someone else should be pumping the clutch , it took approx 15 mins to loosen , no problems soo far !!! hope this helps.

When you say harder, do you mean its harder to press or is it that the clutch material itself is harder? And what's the reason?

Reason for asking, I drove both, 4x2 (yd powered) and 4x4 (zd powered) and the clutch on the 4x2 was soft to medium whereas the 4x4 was soft like butter. 4x4 was basically like pressing a slack pedal as compared to all the other manual vehicles I've driven.
