zd30 frontier losing water

Postby kevinsonny » December 26th, 2013, 9:39 pm

got a zd30 nissan frontier , and recently I've had to top it up everyday cause for some reason the water going to the overflow bottle and running out ,carried it to the radiator guy and got it tested , he says everything is good, I'm thinking head gasket , but i had it replaced about 1 yr ago , and the van never overheated on me or anything , i opened the radiator cap and started the van , but no water seems to be bubbling out , its normal even tried replacing the cap and its the same problem , idk why this is happening, what you guys think could be the problem?

On cold engine remove rad cap, let warm up to op temp then rev engine on short bursts to high speed. If coolant overflows from rad then your rad is nfg and needs to be replaced but do not service cuz of core shrinkage.

I've tried all the tests for head gasket and none really showed up I'm going to try and bleed the radiator to see if their is any air in the system

I have the YD25 model. I was getting a slightly rough idle and after a while( bout a month) noticed water/coolant coming out of the coolant reservoir overflow when engine was hot.

Carried it to my mechanic and after the engine warmed up air bubbles were also coming out of the radiator. This was a sign of engine loosing compression.

When he took off the head, there were cracks at some points. Head gasket was fine. He also said there can be cracks inside of the head that are not in plain site. This is why he advised to buy a brand new head instead of using a used one ( got this from N&M, had to wait about 3 months).

He also said that it was most likely due to material failure since i got no overheating problems.

To note, this happened to me around 185xxx km. Also dont use any cheap coolant. Spend your money and buy the original coolant for your engine to preserve your parts.

Dont completely fill the overflow, dont know why nissan didnt put a max mark.

Still 'breaking eeen' engine 1000 km more lol

Black scorpion how much did you pay for the head at N&M?
And there is a max mark on the coolant over flow bottle.

Was looking at it...its on the side with the battery right? Kinda low down for that big bottle.

Got it for 5500 vat excluded...this was a bare head only though

Yep, you can't miss it. It's on the left side of the engine when standing in front of the engine.
The bottle clearly marks MIN and MAX levels.

Thats a good price for an original head.

What was actually going on was i had put in an original nissan cap which apparently does not sit well on the metal radiator according to who or how its made. So i put in the normal 9.0 cap u get in the parts place and voila !!!! IT WORKED!!! so much for trying to keep things original eh!!
