DMAX TRANSMISSION ENQUIRY

Postby saggaboy » March 10th, 2014, 11:16 am

Hi, recently bought a used 2007 Isuzu D-Max 3.0 LS Turbo Diesel 4WD Automatic pickup and the transmission has failed. Looking around from the Information Plate in the engine compartment it is stamped “RMK” in the TRANS section. After discovering the ISUZU parts catalogue online, it noted that this stood for A/T 4 SPEED-JATCO. Researching that I found that the D-Max carried different transmissions made by different transmission manufacturers and one of them is JATCO a Nissan subsidiary. The JATCO website turned up nothing, but looking around for A/T 4 SPEED-JATCO brought me to the possibility that it was the JR405E transmission. However can’t seem to find that printed anywhere on the transmission housing, etc. Does anyone know if this is the correct transmission given the information at hand?

JATCO manufactures transmissions for a lot of Car makers.
Is rebuilding not an option? How did the trans fail? What type of failure? The cost of a new unit would probably be astronomical, even if you import it yourself.

Here mentions that the JATCO JR405E is also used by a Nissan. https://www.automaticchoice.com/uploads ... jr405e.pdf
If you're lucky you can find out if any of the Nissan varieties can be found foreign used and use the internals to rebuild your box. Long shot, but will be cheaper.

Thanks a lot for you input VexXx Dogg. It failed on Sunday before Carnival coming up from Maracas. It started making light ticking noise and then the RPMs started rising and the vehicle going no where. When it stopped and cooled for a bit it ran but withing a few moments started back again. Felt like the clutches were slipping and there was a burning smell when checking the transmission oil. Yeah, I was looking at getting a used one or having it rebuilt. I am unsure if it really carries the JR405E. It looks so from my online research. What I wanted to know is if the JR405E transmission is for this type of vehicle i.e. 2007 D-Max with TRANS ID: RMK. If so, it seems that I might even be able to use the one from a 2WD D-Max as it seems to carry the same ID, but I cannot find the "JR405E" printed anywhere on the transmission housing. Is there anyway to tell it for sure?

Sounds relatively simple like burned clutches. A rebuild / overhaul and some fresh fluid should sort you out. There are a few Transmission specialists posted on the forums:

Jenton in Aranguez
Chaguanas auto supplies

Just a side note, the JR504E may be an internal/generic designation, the actual unit would carry a Isuzu part number.

Keith Charles in LA romaine /Duncan village does excellent work. He today solved a problem on a b15 that I couldn't solve. He rebuilt 2 transmission for me also. Can't complain

How much did it cost?

I estimate around 75-8000$.

Sound boy 64: The work hasn't started yet. I'd know when it's completed. The previous owner is organizing everything - hoping to split the cost. They're a trustworthy bunch, that's one of the reasons I bought it from them in the first place. Just keeping my fingers crossed at this time.
