Tyres rubbing. Options?

Postby De Dragon » April 30th, 2014, 12:31 am

I recently installed some 265 70 16 on the Hilux and when I lock right more than half of the way the tyres rub. I've so far removed the front mud guards but there is also touching of the bumper inner where the flares screw to the bumper. Aside from removing the flare and trimming is there a good, but simple way to correct this situation?
Thanks

Use smaller tyres or set the limiter bolt(not sure of the correct name) to limit the locking to prevent the rubbing.

I had a similar problem was using 305/45/22 and they were touching switched to 285/70/22 no problem since.

265/70/16 should not scrub unless u have some low offset rims, or if your front has sagged so much it now makes contact.....

also if its only on the right u will want to make sure that the toe adjustment is correct for the van,

was the vehicle ever involved in any accidents??

I ended up pulling the bumper forward to its correct position.
Apparently the previous owner was involved in a slight fender bender which was not correctly sorted out.

It'll only touch very slightly when I'm reversing and turn the steering to the right. The straightener only adjusted the bumper to alleviate the worst touching and allow the van to be driven immediately. I still have to go back and tweak the positioning. I didn't want the "out of the fender" look so I didn't go the spacer route.
