Event #3 Race Results

Postby LEEding-Edge28 » May 5th, 2010, 8:55 am

The sun was not the only thing blazing this last Sunday at Arima Race
Club car park when TTKA held event number three in the 2010 schedule.
After the success of Event two on April 11th, when visiting driver
Brazilian Victor Pedrosa took part and won the Rotax International
Class, it was anyone’s guess as to who was going to come out on top.
With a few of the regular drivers taking a break, there would be a few
surprise winners in races and on the podium. The TTKA introduced a new
tyre to help reduce racers costs forcing the drivers to adapt their
driving style to this harder compound.

With 25 competitors spread across the 5 Classes, the Cadet Class
started the day’s Events. The usual 6 entrants lined up with Nicholas
Madan taking pole in the first heat after having a two second lead in
best lap time in qualifying. With enthusiastic parents and race teams
watching on, these young drivers fought throughout all three of their
races. Tye Carrington won his first heat and was able to finish third
overall. Rookie driver and youngest entrant, Enrique De Leon was able
to finish with second place overall and winner in the Cadet Class was
Amir Mohamed who drove consistently well throughout the whole day.

100cc championship leader, Bridget Singh, was not present and this
gave the boys a chance to take the top spot. However, as to who was
going to take the podium in this Class was anybody’s guess as there
would be three different winners in each heat. Pole sitter, Che
Carrington, took first in heat one and first place on the podium. In
the reverse grid, Shane Pinheiro won his first race after creating a
substantial lead from early which assured him a second place podium
finish. Despite Haymant Singh winning his first race in the final,
Saleem Deen’s consistency earned him the final podium position.

With diminishing numbers in the Shifter class, Vernon Martin, who was
unable to finish a race, was still able to take third place on podium.
Second place podium went to Nicholas Narinesingh and first place went
to newcomer in this class but last years Rotax International Champion,
Luke Bhola.

There was the usual contingent of drivers in Rotax Masters with the
added pressure from former National Karting and Circuit champion, Ravi
Singh. Gerard Carrington continued his dominating form and won two of
the three races with Ravi winning the other. Finishing on the top step
of the podium, Carrington added to his lead in the Championship. Ravi
Singh finished second on the day with Clyde Supersad in a close third.

Rotax International had the closest battle of the day, with the
precedence being set in qualifying with the top five drivers being
separated by only 0.2 of a second. Coming into Sunday’s event,
championship leader, Marcus Skinner, did not have the cutting edge
that he had demonstrated in the first two Events of the season, and
Sunday was not to be his day qualifying fifth. Championship contender,
Ryan Peyrau qualified on pole, but dropped back to second in his first
heat allowing Craig Sumair to take his first race win, which
contributed to his second place podium finish. On the reverse grid,
Aaron Lee fought to the front in the last quarter of the race and led
the way up until the chequered flag. He was able to carry the momentum
through into final race which gave him the top spot on the podium and
put him back into championship contention. On a last lap effort Peyrau
passed Sumair to take the final spot on the podium. Rotax
International karts provided the closest finish for the day with just
two seconds separating first from fifth with a train of karts passing
over the finish line.

The T&T Karting Association is on a rebuilding drive and thanks the
MSYA, Mileage Mack, Red Line Oils and Presidential Insurance for their
continued support.

I am currently attending the University of the West Indies where i am studying Mechanical Engineering. For my final year of study i will be doing a project on go kart design and build. I would like to talk to someone if possible to get some ideas and tips as to how i should proceed. I tried to contact someone through the TTKA website but it doesnt work. I am aiming to design and build a go kart for children/juniors that will meet the required safety and technical specifications and that can be used to compete in your races. You can contact me at this email address. Any information that you can provide me with will be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
