Red265 Rally Media

Postby SilentEvo » January 27th, 2010, 12:30 am

Hi guys, here's a website which you might find of interest. All the latest news and views on Barbadian motorsport

http://red265multimedia.webs.com/red265rallymedia.htm

'Practice Makes Perfect'

Image

While rally drivers in Barbados are not paid professionals, that doesn't exclude them from being professional in their approach. This was evident as Dean Serrao and his prospective Rock 'N Rolla team mate took their machines for some pre-season testing. This test gave both drivers some much needed seat time, as Dean looks to settle into his Subaru Impreza WRC and his partner – who has been away from the rally scene for a while, seeks to get back into the swing of things in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

Red265 Rally Media, A vote of thanks goes out to James Betts for sharing his time with us and allowing us to use his facilities at Quick Start Auto to conduct our interview and also All Terrain Plus. A special vote of thanks is also extended to Ian Nicholls and Paul Edwards for providing a picture of James in his early days of rallying.

"James Betts: Unplugged, Rising Star, French Connection 2010"

ImageWith the focus now on the 2010 season, James has his sights set on a new stomping ground. He is undecided as to which group he will compete in, but one thing is for sure, his step up in group has been accompanied by a step up in machinery – this being in the form of a 2000cc Renault Clio.

Red265 Rally Media, A vote of thanks goes out to Barry Gale for sharing his time with us.

"Barry Gale, One Step Back, Three Steps Forward"

Image
Barry Gale's name has now been added to the list of drivers who has seen a need for change. This change is actually two-fold: a change of group and a change of car. With a return to his old stomping ground Group N, Barry has chosen not to reduce the spec of his Evo VI. Instead, he's opted to go for an Evo IX. "The car is very well put together. It was run by a team that competed in FIA events in China and the UK. At the end of last year, the car went up for sale and I was fortunate enough to acquire it."

Roger "The Sheriff" Skeete is a Barbadian motorsport icon. After having a mixed bag of fortunes in the 2009 season, Roger is looking forward to 2010 with lots of optimism. We at Red265 Rally Media had an early Sunday morning chat with The Sheriff to get some insights from him on his outlook for the season ahead.

To Hot to Handle !!! "Automotive Art Shakedown Stages Rally 2010"
Image
Roger "The Sheriff" Skeete made it two wins in a row after he took first place in the Automotive Art Shakedown Stages Rally. With Louis Venezia in the co-driver seat, Skeete drove his Subaru Impreza WRC S12 to a total elapsed time of 18minutes 59.27 seconds, with 8 stage fastest times. This sends on ominous sign to all contenders for the Rally Barbados 2010 crown..."The Sheriff" isn't taking any prisoners. With the first stage of the day being cancelled due to safety concerns, the rally got underway in earnest with the first run through Sailor Gully. Skeete won this stage, 1.5 seconds ahead of Paul "The Surfer" Bourne and Allan Kinch in their Ford Focus WRC '07. This was as close as they would get to Skeete all day, as Bourne opted to take a cautious approach to the stages not to mention a problem which occurred with the Focus' launch control.
Look forward to some great articles in May!

Red265 Rally Media SOL Rally Barbados 2010 Update : Jeffery Panton
Image
Jeffrey Panton is focused on bettering his 7th placed finish inRally Barbados 2009 when he returns to the island later this month. "Well we intend to better our awful position last year! We discovered that there was a problem with the differentials and this and affected the handling of the car tremendously. With this having been rectified, a podium finish is our intended goal." Having won the event twice previously as well as being a virtually perennial competitor, Panton knows what it takes to win the most prestigious motorsports prize in the Caribbean.
More updates to come during this month, running up to the Sol Rally Barbados 2010.

Red265 Rally Media SOL Rally Barbados 2010 Update : Dane Skeete
Image
From the time Dane Skeete entered the motorsport world, questions have always surrounded him. The frequency of these questions increased dramatically after his performance at the Motoring Club of Barbados Inc's (MCBI) season-opener at Dark Hole. His committed driving style and impressive overall performance once again set tongues wagging, and this time one thing remained prominent on the lips of motorsport fans: "I wonder when he's going step up to a higher group." Dane isn't just one of Barbados' up and coming motorsport young guns, he's also the son of driving ace Roger "The Sheriff" Skeete.
This week edition Sol Rally Barbados Article to come.

Red265 Rally Media SOL Rally Barbados Update: Steve Ollivierre

Image
Steve “De Captain” Ollivierre has hoisted the main sail and has set a course for Rally Barbados. Steve has been competing in Barbados since 1995 when he first started in a Hyundai Excel previously owned by Don Hunte. A few years later, Steve then turned to a Mitsubishi Colt (now campaigned by local driver Darryl Clarke), Ollivierre then upgraded to a Group N-spec Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII. Staying true to the cars name, an evolution take place and the car is a now up to Group A specifications. Speaking to Red265Rally Media from St.Vincent, The Captain outlined his plans for Rally Barbados and beyond.

Red265 Rally Media SOL Rally Barbados Update: James Betts

Image
Local rally fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to see James Betts behind the wheel of his Renault Clio. Speaking to Red265 Rally Media, James filled us in on the situation surrounding the car and its consequent debut appearance. With SOL Rally Barbados just over 2 weeks away, we also asked James about his strategy as well as his opinion on the changes to the event.

While thousands of motorsport fans are at Shell V-Power King of The Hill, a precious piece of cargo will be making its way into Barbados. “The engine should be arriving on the 23rd of May, and the following day, the engineers should be lifting it into the car.” As a result, SOL Rally Barbados will be the Clio’s first local event – talk about a baptism of fire!

Red265 Rally Media SOL Rally Barbados Update: Ian Warren

Image

It's not the guys in Group N or Group A that will be the ones gunning for Wee Wee, however. Those looking to upstage him are the crews competing in Super Modified 10 and Super Modified 11. Ian isn't the least bit flustered, and is more concentrating on the overall goal. "My goal will be similar to that of last year a top ten finish. Placing anywhere from 8th to 10th would be fine for me." During the Automotive Art Shakedown Stages Rally, Ian was involved in an enthralling battle with Josh Read. How does Ian see this battle being played out over the two days of Rally Barbados? "To be honest, I'm not worried. I have quite an amazing machine and I trust my capabilities but competition is always welcomed."

Rum 'N Reason

Graeme Finlayson has been bitten by the love bug. Not just any love bug, one that has bitten quite a few overseas competitors who have come to participate in Rally Barbados. Red265 Rally Media spoke to him to find out how this love affair began, and what lured him to our shores and special stages. “Rum, basically. Rum and Westfields."

'Mallalieu is back on the Front Lines'

Image
Andrew Mallalieu is a Barbadian motorsport legend. Whenever his name is mentioned, spectators who have witnessed his driving displays start to stroll down memory lane. After being away from the competitive aspect of motorsport for over a decade, Andrew Mallalieu has made a return. When his name popped up on the entry list for the Motoring Club of Barbados Inc’s (MCBI) Double Header at Ellesmere, more than a few eyebrows were raised and hearts skipped a few beats.

'Man and Machine: Neil Armstrong Ready for the 2WD Battle'

Image
Neil Armstrong is a man on a mission. If there was any doubt about this, one only needed to see Neil’s performance at the recently held BRC Shakedown Stages Rally. Constantly on the heels of and even beating some four-wheel drive competitors, Neil and his Toyota Starlet took fastest two-wheel drive honours. There’s nothing new to the notion of Armstrong and his Starlet being in giant-killing mode, what is new, however is what lies in the belly of the beast.
