AFAIK, the key has the lock/unlock buttons as well as a chip for the factory immobilizer.... ie, if you make a spare, that key would not start the car...

correct.

To the best of my knowledge:

Immobilizer is part of CAN bus -
System includes Key (duh), Antenna (red ring around ignition), and module (not sure if module is tied into ECU or physically separate)

if any one of the above components have changed, the vehicle will not start, unless reprogrammed.

the lock/unlock on the key itself is pure keyless entry, it does not function as the viper where the system can arm separately and prevent starting.

The factory immobilizer has no arm/disarm function. It is simply so that the vehicle will not start without authorized key.

^ thats basically it

key is chipped and not tied to the ECU, theres another box somewhere in the dash i believe that holds the code for the key

Recently realised that keeping the lock and unlock buttons depressed (not at the same time ) will send up and lower the drivers glass respectively. Not sure if there is a way to expand this to the other windows though.

hold down the lock button car locks and window goes up
