24 Hours of Le Mans

Postby MichaelR » June 10th, 2011, 4:03 pm

I know I cant be the only one waiting for this. Looking foward to hardly any sleep saturday night.

This year should be a good battle between the pugs and audis since audi slightly faster. Once the 908's hold together it should be close.

Those ferraris?

Hopefully no oil slicks this year

Bleh. I expect the same turnout as last year, peugeot gonna push their cars to hard and break em, imagine last le manns, every pit posted their own lap time in the pits for drivers to review, while peugeot posted everyone else's lap time. Talk about pressure on the driver

Was a great race, particularly impressed by the safety engineering and reliability of the audis and how close the margin of victory was. Only 15seconds.

Best Le Mans in quite a few years!

• Nissan’s gamer-turned-racer Lucas Ordonez takes podium finish on Le Mans debut

Signatech Nissan

Nissan-powered cars have finished in first and second place in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours. Olivier Lombard took the chequered flag as LMP2 winner in the Zytek Nissan of Greaves Motorsport. elsewhere....

some of the drivers in the LMPs* were highly critical of the standard of the GT class drivers...night crash involving the ferrari GTE added fuel to that argument...

Its that time again, next weekend. I surprised the toyotas only 1 second behind the audis in practice. I guess the modifications they copied from audi during their "down time due to the crash of the development car" earlier this year were a big help. I doubt it was that they skipped the Spa race so they could copy audi aerodynamics and make the car faster. Nah couldnt be.

Image

Anyway everybody does that, i not hating on toyota. This year's race i think is more of a test session for everybody, audi, toyota and the delta wing. Could still be exciting though, but i seriously doubt they will top last year's race. If Peugeot was here still it would have been building up to another epic battle. I still trying to wake whole night though

2014 its speculated Peugeot will return...That's the same yr for Porsche as well.

Opening laps of this race 3-4 it will be about speed, everyone will lay down their cards after that, is pure race strategy and reliability.

My support is for Toyota this yr. There are three factory Peugeot drivers driving for Toyota so added experience on the track is important. Toyota is petrol hybrid and right now diesel are being restricted performance wise every yr by the ACO. Its just a matter of time a petrol will win.

Toyota will face some disadvantages mainly number of cars they enter. Its 4 rings vs 2 Toyota. One sec is plenty in time gap in performance and lastly and most important Audi if they beaten in speed they will win by race strategy....We seen it over and over on the French..Well only for Le Mans...ILMC Cup was a different story for Audi...

Race will be good but i do expect to see 2 audis in the winning podium....

And i hope Allan Mcnish stays on track this time...

Since Peugeot enter le mans i watched full 24hrs from 2007 to 2011.....

What is the fuel mileage of the toyota compared to the audis? And i wonder if that car really ready for 24hrs. I hope so, dont want it to just be a big audi advertisement. You does make it through d whole night? I feel if i watch the whole night i will sleep from sunday evening to monday lunch time. Just before sunrise does be a real nice time to watch. From around 2002, with the R8's them, i does watch parts of the race. When Bentley did just step in and clean up the place in 2003 i did get vex, only to later realize it was basically an audi effort.

Fuel mileage is unknown...On test day that was done recently i would not draw any serious infor on that..Nobody wants to let the cat out of the bag yet.....

Yes i watch the full 24hrs....

You correct about Bentley ....

I like the fact that they give new technologies a chance in Le Mans. Why Porsche sticking so with the 911 hybrid flywheel. Anyway that probably will be integrated into the promised porsche return.

yea, audi, but i wasnt following the action this year to make a guess at who runnin good in gte.
I dont get excited about things like fancy headlights eh, but anybody saw the new audi headlights with the colored circumferential strip this year. I swear it changes illumination to any colour of the rainbow. I thought something was wrong with my eyes, but when it was on the track it was white light, then it change to blue on pit straight ,then yellow then red. How do they do that? Some sort of rotating led selector at the end of a tube? Here it is red:

Lotterer puts #1 Audi e-tron on top by 1.3 seconds in Le Mans opening practice

Andre Lotterer put the #1 Audi e-tron on top by 1.3 seconds just as the chequered flag fell on the opening free practice session for the Le Mans 24 Hours on Wednesday.

Lotterer and fellow e-tron driver Tom Kristensen had engaged in a late battle for first place, with the German pipping the Dane by just over a tenth of a second 25 minutes from the end.

There was still more speed to come from the #1, though, as Lotterer demonstrated with a commanding 3m25.163s on his penultimate flying lap. Only traffic prevented an even quicker time on the next lap, as Lotterer set the best middle sector of the day before being delayed.

Although the e-trons were monopolising the leading positions by the end, both varieties of Audi and the Toyotas had also taken a number of turns on top as the four-hour session developed.

The #3 was the leading ultra in third place, 2.3s off the pace and 0.4s ahead of the sister #4 car.

Toyota's lead #7 car was fifth, 3.2s down on Audi's benchmark.

The #8 Toyota only managed five laps before developing a problem that stranded it on the Mulsanne straight, and required an engine change once it was brought back to the garage. The work should be completed in time for qualifying, but leaves the Anthony Davidson/Sebastien Buemi/Stephane Sarrazin crew very short on mileage and without a spare engine for the rest of the event.

Strakka's HPD was comfortably 'best of the rest' behind Audi and Toyota, with Danny Watts putting the car seventh overall, two seconds ahead of Pescarolo's Dome and the #12 Rebellion Lola-Toyota.

The leading few cars in the ultra-competitive LMP2 were covered by just a few tenths of a second until Ryan Dalziel moved the Starworks HPD 1.1s clear of its class rivals in the closing stages. The Jota Zytek-Nissan closed to within half a second in Sam Hancock's hands with two minutes to go, moments before Warren Hughes moved Murphy's ORECA-Nissan into third with another late improvement.

Just 0.082s covered the #24 OAK Morgan-Judd, #26 Signatech ORECA-Nissan and #45 Boutsen Ginion ORECA-Nissan in fourth, fifth and sixth places.

Aston Martin took early GTE Pro honours thanks to a 3m57.036s lap from Darren Turner. That put the car four tenths of a second ahead of the leading Luxury Ferrari, with the #74 car the top Corvette in third.

AF Corse's #51 Ferrari was fourth quickest, but will require substantial repairs before qualifying after Giancarlo Fisichella crashed at the Porsche Curves.

Fastest GTE Am car was the #79 Flying Lizards Porsche, in which Patrick Pilet lapped within 1.2s of the top GTE Pro time.

Although it lost some running with early electrical problems, the Nissan DeltaWing rejoined to set the 28th fastest time overall, ahead of six LMP2 cars. The DeltaWing lapped two seconds faster than its test day pace as it delivered a 3m43.576s, four seconds down on the LMP2 leaders.

Road to Le Mans on speed was really a good watch, i find it was better than Truth in 24 II. Surprised to see McNish on too in full audi livery, praising toyota. It was a good collaboration. Showing again now if anyone missed it.
