Noob B12 owner - timing chain/belt help!

Postby chosen1 » April 4th, 2012, 2:26 pm

hey guys..

i just picked up my first b12, which i really purchased for nostalgia sake...but i really know nothing about them. the one i purchased has been parked down for bout three years but i want to bring it back on the road. its a FU with a ga15e 12 valve fuel injected engine and manual gearbox. the engine has about 500k on the odo. the owner passed away so i have no real history on the car, but would like to know the following:

1. do these carry timing belts or chains? where can it (belt or chain) be purchased?
2. where can i get a power steering pump (or assembly)?
3. i was told by the mech that cradle bushings need to be changed, where can i purchase these (or prolly a pair of complete cradles)?
4. are there any front sway bars available for these cars?
5. i would like to do a front brake upgrade does any one have the ad18 caliper setup for sale?
6. where can i get new mounting rubbers for the ga15 engine.

i am from south so i would prefer locations in south to check (i am running p2)

sorry for all the questions but i just want to learn as much as quick as possible, cuz i really want to get the car to a body shop soon.

thanks

1) Not sure about the ga15e but I had the GA15S 12 valve carb engine and that had a timing chain. You should be able to get that at The Motorist on Cipero Street (as well as most genuine Nissan parts).

2) Pitt in Suchit Trace had used. Powerseller Hammy Bolo also posted in the B12 thread that Ivar Ltd in Siparia had FU B12 parts.
Not sure if they are available new though, maybe someone can provide some more info on this :?:

3) I just changed those. $65 for the small cradle bushing & $75 for the big one at Kaimraj & Sons Auto Supplies in Debe.

4) I have no idea. lol.. Would like to find out this as well :!:

5) Check classifieds... I know Black Start on the forum had a pair for sale.

6) You mean engine mounts? I paid about $120 for the front (dogbone) mount by Kaimraj, he should have the others too. Wasn't genuine Nissan though, the genuine front one at Motorist is around $400.

Hope this helps!

got a b12 - same engine so hope i can help..

1. chain. if youre going to open up the engine to check stuff you'll need new gaskets and such- see below.

2. you can get a new power steering pump online to buy.

3. cradles- you can get brand new from amazon again with new bushings in it...buy and install those and fix your cradle keep it as a spare.

4. sway bars ARE available for the car but they are really hard to find - good luck - a few companies make them in the USA. you can get a strut tower bar for the top- that bolts onto the two shocks - the below strut bar is a pain to get

5. check black start or yakuza on the forums - do a search and read up on their threads- very good info.

6. new mounts are online on amazon for 20 each- alternatively you can rebuild your mounts in sando- will get the name of the place for you.

also if you need engine parts - gaskets and such check mathuras i called them the other day it's $550 for the gasket set for your engine. i also got a set of new bosch spark plugs for sale if you interested.!

would the b13/14 stabilizer bar work
if the cradles are the same as b13/14 the bushings are easily sourced

yakuza has one of the poly mount inserts for the ga15 gb

guys, thanks for the responses so far..i have gotten good leads on the ad18v brakes, timing chain, complete cradles and gasket kit. i will have check Ivar for the p/steering assembly.

Any ideas on which master cylinder/booster would work as an upgrade to match the ad18 setup, whether b13 or b14. looking for a direct bolt swap upgrade.

Dave that's the small bushing if I'm not mistaken. I bought one recently and the packaging had "B12/B13" written on it. Is the B14 is the same as well?

chosen1 the B13 booster and master cylinder worked bolt for bolt on my B12.

BTW I found out from Streetwise Performance on the forums that they sell Energy Suspension bushings for the B12, but by order only. They're located opposite Jenny's Wok.

What's the avg price of front upper strut bar for B12? been thinking about buying one a while now.

The name is Sasco Rethreads, on Cipero Street just opposite The Motorist I think. For the dog bone mount I mentioned earlier it's about $100. It's a hassle to take out and carry while car can't be driven imho when you can get that same whole new mount for $120! But hey, to each his own.

will get the timing chain from motorist and the gasket set from faiz..

will check ivar this week for the p/steering setup.

14'' steelies is the smallest that will fit the ad18v brake setup. Alo, remember that it is required to change the spare to 14'' as well.
