I feel team/factory politics played a part in not seeing Perez attempt a pass on Alonso. Clearly the team expressed to him that he was "in a good position". Maybe I reading into it too much but right after that Perez makes a mistake.

Besides, you wouldn't want to overtake a two time champion for the team you trying to get the seat in?

Exactly. Alonso still no.1 in my books. I want to see how Vettel fares in a non competitive car.

Clearly McLaren has the best machine at the moment, but the "dream team" couldnt capitalize on it.

Kimi is the "dark horse"...it looks like the break he took is paying off. I love it !

Donno about the "fanboy" thing MG but with such an inconsistent pit crew for the last 2 1/2 seasons both Hamilton & Button have a right to be pissed off right now.

Alonzo didn't have a prayer of even a "top five spot" until McLaren's pit crew started their circus act. IIRC that moved him from 7th or 8th(?) to 1st.

that is where a gifted driver makes a difference... What about Hamilton working up the field from 10th or 12th(?) place after his pit crew's screw-up... to a 3rd place podium finish? Why wasn't that mentioned at all?
In the torrential conditions earlier, that was great driving IMHO.

But while that's all well and good; IMHO Perez had the "drive of the day" to stay in touch with Alonzo in an inferior car.

Kimi's Quick Guide To F1 Flags

We didn't know he could be so funny... At the Australian Grand Prix Kimi Raikkonen showed that he's not the Iceman and in fact a lot more like veteran whinger Victor Meldrew. In the middle of the race he got on team radio and yelled angrily, "Why do I get all the blue flags?" To which his engineer replied: "the blue flags are for the cars behind, Kimi".

So, just in case Kimi is feeling a bit rusty about the flags he might see out on the track - none of which he's taken much notice of over the years - here's a refresher.

Blue Flag
Meaning: You are about to go a lap down, NOT, you are about to go down on a Lap (or in a lap-dancing club)

Yellow Flag
Meaning: Think about slowing down.

Double Waved Yellow Flags
Meaning: Oh, don't bother, it's probably a lot of fuss over nothing i.e. like when Takuma Sato blew engine smoke all over the exit of Eau Rouge and you went steaming through at top speed.

Orange Flag
Meaning: There's oil or debris on track, or as Takuma once said, "very slippery oily stuffs"

Green Flag
Meaning: You must drive in an eco-friendly manner from this point on.

Red Flag
Meaning: Vitaly's gone off somewhere again.

Red Light at End of Pitlane
Meaning: In about five seconds time Lewis is going to smash into the back of you.

Black Flag
Meaning: Race Control has been taken over by pirates. (Normally with a number showing how many pirates)

If you want to win, go with the Finn

having said all that, based on your analysis, he should have stormed from third place, wiped his backside with freddie and taken the lead, regardless of pitlane schennanigans ......he should have been closing in on the leader by a second or more a lap...isn't he a prodigy in the rain too?
If you had said, he was showing maturity and decided to hold on to third and secure his points rather than risk anything, I would have sayd yeah, ok :P
But really, that car in his 'gifted' hands and that's all he could have done?
really?

Ooohhh....thats harsh.

Hamilton is a good driver, but not the genius the media hype was making him out to be. He is inconsistent, loves to crash his car when a finish is critical.

Jensen Button is the better of the two. Jensen is more consistent and can put down some serious speed when needed. And, I always say...smoother is always better when it comes to racing.

People have to learn to make sense from all the foolish british media hype. When Hammie came on the scene, he was the first black F1 driver so the media went bonkers. He was a formula 1 marketing team's wet dream. However, there are other drivers out there who are probably better. I like Vettel very much, I see flashes of genius in him, but lets see him in a not so competitive car.

Why couldnt Hammie pass the Mexican ?

VIVA LA MEXICO !!!!

C'mon Schumie, you can do it !!

F1: Schumacher Soars In Second Shanghai Practice
Michael Schumacher sets the quickest overall Friday time as Mercedes remains fast in China...

It's turning into a nice weekend for Mercedes in China.

After the FIA announced on Thursday that it had rejected Lotus' protest of Mercedes' controversial DRS/F-Duct system, Mercedes scored another victory of sorts on Friday.

This time it was courtesy of team driver Michael Schumacher, who set the pace in Free Practice Two at Shanghai International Circuit.

After turning the third quickest lap in Friday's opening practice, trailing only teammate Nico Rosberg and session leader Lewis Hamilton, Schumacher topped the time sheet in FP2 with a lap of 1:35:973.

Schumacher's best lap, run under dry conditions, was more than a second clear of Hamilton's leading FP1 time of 1:37:106 set on a damp track.

Clocking in just behind Schumacher in FP2 was Hamilton's still-stout McLaren (1:36:145), which is seeking to make it three straight poles to open the 2012 season.

The Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber — both denied victory in the season's first two events — finished the 90-minute session third and fourth, respectively, as the Mercedes of Rosberg slipped to fifth in the order.

Positions six through 10 on the time sheet belonged to Jenson Button, Kamui Kobayashi, Paul Di Resta, Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso.

Alonso is the World Championship leader, having scored a surprising victory for Ferrari three weeks ago in the rain at Sepang International Circuit.

Despite being run in mostly dry conditions, FP2 actually featured more incidents than the earlier Friday practice at the 5.451-kilometer China course.

Di Resta spun his Force India and continued on, but Timo Glock wasn't so fortunate.

The Marussia driver lost the nose of his car approaching the first corner, and spiraled into the gravel trap, crashing against the tire barrier and bringing out a yellow flag.

Glock was OK but his session was finished.

The action gets going again with Free Practice Three, which SPEED.com will stream live at 11 p.m. ET Friday.

Following at 2 a.m. ET Saturday will be three rounds of knockout qualifying broadcast live on SPEED.

i still feel that even though the W03 is quick on qualifying there is something with that chassis that wears the tires more. thats why they always fall of fast times on wearing tires. hoping the clean air up front can help them pull away. GO SCHUMIE

with that big difference btn 1st and second place the title could change hands many times during the season. 25 pts for 1st 18pts for 2nd. 7 pt diff is a lot

1st : 25 points
2nd : 18 points
3rd : 15 points
4th : 12 points
5th : 10 points
6th : 8 points
7th : 6 points
8th : 4 points
9th : 2 points
10th : 1 point

this season might be the most interesting since the last two seasons of schumacher's career

It sucks what happened to Schumie. Its just a matter time before he comes good, the car seems to be performing well. He gotta teach these young uns a lesson or two.

Hamilton finished 6 seconds behind Button and Button finished 26.6 seconds behind Rosberg. I think Button will be faster than Hamilton this year but Hamilton will have flashes of speed.

Keke must be very proud right now.

Button looks very good, I like his approach to racing. Very sensible and patient, he listens to his crew as well and is the smoothest driver out there.

Hats off to Nico tho, I don't know where he found half a second more in qualifying to take pole over the rest of the pack.

Season going good so far, looking forward to Bahrain this weekend
