TTASA constructing Circuit Racing Track at Camden

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » July 9th, 2012, 10:40 pm

This is a blog post. To read the original post, please click here »

The President of TTASA Mr. Mohammed Ali said his association has started the clearing of an area immediately north of the Camden runway / drag strip that will be used for a circuit racing track.

Mr. Ali said the new circuit will be 1.1 miles long and will be more or less a mirror image of the track at Wallerfield. He said the new track being constructed will be 40 feet wide and paved with asphalt with wider sections at the corners with sand traps.

TTASA, the National Governing Body (NGB) for Motorsport in T&T was granted permission by the Commissioner of State Lands for the use of Camden for motorsport activities in 2011 and has been having only drag racing events there since. The completion of this circuit racing track would see the rebirth of circuit racing in Trinidad which was stopped completely with the closure of Wallerfield in 2006.

Fixored

As much as I'm all for progress, I'd rather believe it when the first race at the 'track'? has finished. this is what ? the third time or is it fourth time we seeing 'development of a track' commencing?

is that an assumption as well? :|

could also be assumed that the Ministry of Sport squeezing TTASA balls to get the ball rolling....which is more likely than all the other assumptions seeing that Minister Roberts has told them to get their act together

Flew out of Camden this morning. Looks like they paid for the bulldozer for the day to clear 100ft x 500ft alongside the runway. No more equipment on site.. while I would be happy for a circuit track, does TTASA have a CEC for this work or is this just smoke and mirrors to make it seem like they're doing something?

WRT the fugitives comment.. I agree. When I asked why they weren't buying barriers and they should use the proceeds of the events to buy some to eventually line the track I was told that they aren't going to invest in anything at Camden because it's just temporary and that money would be better spent on the permanent facility. Now they're going to re-build the wallerfield track in Camden?!

Most likely they just clearing the land to get ur guys hyped up and start back coming out to their events and the land will be overgrown again with no progress being made......or very little and slow progress to keep you "hooked to their line"

All this means that is the final death for drag racing. TTASA as we all know is a circuit club, once circuit gets in the way then there will be no need for drag racing. It seems that drag racing paid the way for a circuit track. Drag racers got duped once again.
