WTK BATTERY HELP!

Postby steve_r » June 24th, 2012, 8:48 pm

I am currently installing my system but I have no idea of what battery to use. My amplifier system consist of the following:
MMATS 3500.1
Rockford P1200.2
Boss CX650
My vehicle is a 98 Honda CRV in which the alt is 90amps. So can someone please advise me on what to do. Thanks.

That amplifier will consume a large amount of current when pushed hard and that stock alternator will be inadequate for it. I would recommend upgrading to a higher capacity alternator, doing the big 3 upgrade and installing an auxiliary deep cycle battery near the amp. This will provide you will sufficient power to play at full tilt without any problems.

If the system will rarely see full tilt playing, then you can get away with just two good deep cycle batteries.

Powermaster D3100 if you have the budget. Stinger also has some excellent deep cycle audio batteries. What budget do you have to work with? That would help determine the battery you could buy.

max current draw on bass amp should be 180, max from 1200.2 should be ~100a, boss amp cater 20a (lol)
your electrical systemneeds to be able to sustain 300a of current with system turned full tilt,

expect 50a from stock alternator
to keep the minimum voltage you drop to as 12.0v you need to have 200ah of batteries,

so your system needs 200ah of batteries,
whatever you decide to buy with whatever budget you got,
try to get as close as possible to 200ah

if you cant get all that and you turn the system full tilt you will drop below 12v, its easier to damage equipment below this voltage
these numbers are estimations from my experience

from my calculations you would require about 40ah less in batteries, so 160ah batteries

mind you the mmats would play the bass better
