5A issues

Postby Japan_fan » September 4th, 2014, 7:32 pm

Hey guys, I require some assistance with my AE110 that presently has a 5A engine. Two days ago while I was pulling out of my yard, the car started to idle low and soon after it shut off.
I attempted to start it, but it would only start if I pressed the gas pedal, even then it would have to rumble for a while before it started.

Since then,I have changed my fuel pump, clamped my return fuel line to create restriction, checked my injectors, checked timing, checked all fuses, checked for spark on all my plug wires, changes plugs because they were due.

The last thing I did was removed the throttle and have it a proper cleaning along with the "idle controller" (I think that's what it's called)

Upon cleaning the throttle and reinstalling, the car started immediately, however as soon as the temperature started to raise it started to idle low again and soon after it shut off, since then I have been back to square one with attempting to restart. Even pressing the gas pedal doesn't seen to do anything anymore.

I forgot to mention the vehicle was scanned, no trouble codes came up

I tried reading a few articles as to maybe give me an idea on what else I can probably check and now I am here asking for any possible information as to what I can look into next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

You could check the oxygen sensor..I think in the intake...or prob check the dizzy
I had a similar problem cause I didn't start the car for a while. .but it went away after a few days..mech said it was probably oxygen sensor..if you still have trouble. .I can probably type out some of the stuff from the manual

Type...if u got a good camera u can take pics from the manual.

I am thinking along the lines of the distributor, I checked for proper spark and they all looked great.

Can I get a new O2 sensor other than Toyota ?

Check the coolant temp sensor and the radiator fan switch sensor. If it causes your car to die while warm/hot, replace both sensors.

Thanks for the replies, thus far I think I have out ruled the sensors, changed the temp sensor and had the same result, tried driving without them plugged in with the same result. Will look into getting a brain box but I'm interested into looking for a good Electrican to check my wiring to see if there are any possible shorts in the system

Anyone know the cost of a brain box? Mine is carrying 3 jacks

Open the cover on the ecu and take a good look at the components on the board toyota ecus are known for leaky capicitors... that can be a cause

Sometimes the car drives good, other times it would idle bad and shut off and not want to start back
