Our notes were never paper.
Traditional Notes are made of cotton.
Hence you can forget them in your trousers in the wash no worries, or literally iron them to make it crispy if need be.

I deal in TT old bank notes, I got notes from 1906 to 1929 which were made of paper. The later issued notes are of cotton.
