Is there really a performance difference...

They have silver plugs? best metallic conductor of electricity, but not too sure how well that will stand up to oxidation/ sulphur attack. Probably have to change them after a few races. The reason for use of platinum and irridium is not only conduction, but resistance to heat in the combustion chamber. What make are the silver plugs (to check website of manufacturer)?

NOLOGY has plugs with silver tip. silver is more conductive to electricity than irridium and platinum and nology says that silver is also the best thermal conductor.

what about the heat resitance of silver plugs. would not the melting point of silver be a concern in spark plug use

They are verry thermally conductive, so I would guess they would dissipate heat faster to their threads, making them a colder plug.

silver is the third least reactive metal, after platinum and gold

melting points:

Iridium: 2410ºC
Platinum: 1772ºC
Silver: 962ºC

does all this data point to silver plugs having an initial advantage, i.e. with better conductivity, but iridium outlasting it, relative to silver, iridium is a pretty poor conductor isnt it?

bought a set of the silver plugs and the 323 feels a little livlier, throttle response has improved some...placebo effect?

^Yep most likely.

Plugs....alone...will hardly change performance per say. I dare anyone to change plugs alone on their car, and put it on a dyno to register a change in hp or torque (and not a MANUFACTURER's CLAIM!) ! And minor changes like that (1-2hp) can hardly be felt on day-to-day driving.

What it WILL change in most cases, is your service interval, as Iridiums/Plats will have superior construction, and will outlast regular plugs 5-fold. Heat range selection can also assist with F/I cars...and combatting detonation etc.

^^^yup
plugs do not increase power....they just make better us of what's already there
what is more important to an engine is a plug's heat range,ie ht or cold, but that's a whole other debate
