^ I got a 2G original iPhone taht came with 1.0.1 firmware
what do I get?

Freelander I agree fully - I wanted a good camera so I bought one. A phone could never be a good camera

you already made the camera point though - what about twice the memory and faster processor?

for those who cant wait till next week...

for 2G owners, it's most likely safe to upgrade and retain the unlock but u will lose ur jailbreak as with previous upgrades till the dev team releases the new pwnage tools.

3G owners should not do this yet...

Quote:
iPhone OS 3.0 Now Available in Torrent—Tested, It Works

You can get it now. Just fire up your favorite Torrent client and look for iPhone OS 3.0 7a341. Everyone can install this, not just developers. Here's how it works:

Note: The image is called iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw (3G)
iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw (2G). It should be 230.1MB

7a341 is the golden master, the WWDC'09 build that Apple will distribute next week— if nothing extraordinary happens. It works great, so download and enjoy.

For me to switch to AT&T(for the lowest plan possible) would result in my phone bill increasing by more than 25% and losing unlimited text and 200 anytime minutes. :?

2.x runs a good bit slower on 2g
so 3.x will likely crawl

Hmm how is your 3G unlocked? Rebel Sim or software?

Are you using EDGE on your phone?

Would the GPS work if you did not have EDGE?

Can the GPS work with wifi alone?

iPhone 3GS to use fingerprint-resistant screen...

Oleophobic screen coating

Meanwhile, Apple has noted on its website the new iPhone 3G S's screen is finished with a "fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating" not found on the iPhone 3G.

To clean the screen on the 3G S, the company recommends users simply wipe their iPhone’s screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oil left by their hands and face. These cleaning instructions differ somewhat from "soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth" recommended for cleaning the iPhone 3G.

Dev Team Software unlock
No Edge/GPRS active (i use offline maps)
I've never gotten GPS to work(dot pinpoint) while WIFI was on.

Turn off Wifi, turn on Location services and take the phone out in an open view of the sky. It has to lock on to several sats before you can get an accurate fix so it may take a while for the initial calibration.

Hmm proberly that was my problem, i never tired it with an EDGE connection only wifi... so i am assuming you did no other settings or fix right?

all you did was download the maps for offline use?

So therefore any 3G iPhone with EDGE on and wifi off should be able to get pin point locations right?

Thanks for the info :!:

I made the maps myself because nobody had Trinidad ones.

Yes all "soft-unlocked" 3Gs should be able to use GPS + GPRS.

Some next-generation iPhone specs that came out not too long prior to WWDC 2009. How did they match up with what was eventually announced?

Unboxing images of the new iPhone 3G S which may show a gold trim have been posted online. The images are shown in an Engadget gallery.

Its unclear if what looks like gold trim is a feature of a special edition iPhone 3G S or whether its just incorrectly set white balance on the photographers camera.

Take a look at the pics below.

The iPhone 3.0 firmware will allow the redownload of purchased applications for free, according to a AppAdvice report.

A couple weeks ago it was discovered that users running the iPhone OS 3.0 beta were unable to redownload purchased iPhone applications.

The mobile App Store presented a message stating, "You've already purchased this. You can redownload it for free on your computer, or tap Buy to buy it again."

AppAdvice discovered that this message only occurred to users who had not updated to the new iTunes 8.2 software. This new version adds some logic that tells a device what iTunes accounts are authorized on the computer. Since those users’ devices never received the authorization information from iTunes 8.2 they were not able to pass it along to the App Store when they tried re-downloading apps.

So in order to redownload apps you must have installed iTunes 8.2 and have synced to a computer that has been authorized with your iTunes account.

__________

Steven Troughton-Smith has jailbroken the Palm Pre while at WWDC in San Francisco.

Well, success :-) I gave up Tuesday eve because I couldn't get the device into restore mode no matter what I did, but on Wednesday morning I figured it out: you have to hold the volume-up button while the device is off before plugging it into USB, and from there you can use Palm's firmware flashers to do whatever you like with it. As the device can run unsigned firmware (!!!) I was easily able to hack out the activation check, and get up and running and enable the root shell. In that respect, I may just have the first jailbroken Pre in existence.

Troughton-Smith says that for hacking, the Pre is incredible. It runs unsigned firmware, has root shell over USB, its entire UI and all apps are written in javascript, and you run write C/C++ native Linux apps.

You can use the latest version of Itunes. Just DO NOT directly restore the phone or let Itunes UPDATE the FIRMWARE.

It will ask you to update the phone software, just click no and do not remind.

If I remember correctly that was the case with the 2nd generation iPod touch with its redsn0w jailbreak.
