According to Inquisitr.com, some Apple retailers in the United States have been given price lists for a new Apple laptop line, and there’s a big surprise: an $800 laptop.

According to the source, Apple retail stores have been given price sheets that list 12 price points for the new range, with prices between $800-$3100. Current lines only have 8 price points, 3 Macbooks starting at $1099, 3 Macbook Pros and 2 Macbook Airs. According to the source, retail outlets usually get the price lists 10 days before products hit the market. Technical specs for the new laptops were not included on the price sheet.

Damn it Apple! Couldn't you have done this 1 year earlier?

Boy, did it come in a big box!

When it arrived, I really had no idea what it was. I had forgotten about signing up for that replacement deal a few weeks ago and even if I had remembered, it never would have occurred to me that this giant box was all for a teensy-weensy, little AC adapter.

I mean, this box is nearly 3 times as large as the original one the iPhone came in! And that included an AC adapter that was nearly the same size!

Sure, this box is also used for the return trip of your old AC adapter, because if you don’t return it, they actually charge you for the one they sent out! Seriously, read the letter that came with it! I have a feeling Apple is gonna have a lot of pissed-off customers about 3 months from now who didn’t bother to read that through.

Plus, how safe do you need to keep an AC adapter that you’re probably just going to throw out anyway? They’re not that fragile to begin with. Honestly, a small bubble wrap package would have done the job, don’t you think?

Maybe I’m making a big deal out of this, but when you multiply one box times the millions of iPhone owners out there, it seems pretty wasteful. Not just to the environment, but for Apple, which is gonna have to foot what I would imagine is going to be an enormous bill in terms of materials and shipping.

Luckily for them, at 300 bucks a pop, they probably won’t sweat it too much.

Apple is working on a networked television according to Jason Calacanis, founder of Weblogs.

Nate Lanxon for Cnet writes that "these LCD HDTVs will be fully networked, with the ability to stream all your iTunes content from your Mac or PC. In fact, Calacanis told me they'll function like a standard TV with an Apple TV box, only without the need for the box."

"In many ways, this isn't surprising news, as Apple already produces a stunning 30-inch display for the Mac. So picture that -- only thinner -- in a bedroom, streaming iTunes movie rentals over 802.11n, controlled with the Remote app on an iPod touch or iPhone."

It has been confirmed that the new 13 inch MacBook will abandoned Intel graphics chipsets for those of NVIDIA by AppleInsider

At a minimum, they can confirm that 13-inch systems will adopt chipsets from NVIDIA's MCP79 platform.

MCP79 is believed to use a new set of GeForce 9300 and 9400 series integrated mainboard graphics processors. Regardless of which variant Apple uses, both are expected to support the latest visual effects and will theoretically blow past the performance of not just the Intel GMA X3100 video on Apple's current MacBooks but also the GMA 4500MHD found on newer notebooks using Intel's reference hardware.

Other benefits to the NVIDIA chipset include a smaller footprint and features such as DriveCache and Hybrid SLI.

Wal-mart may soon join Best Buy as the next retailer to carry the iPhone 3G, according to the Boy Genius Report.

Boy Genius Report wrote:
One of our ninjas has it on good authority that Walmart will begin selling the iPhone 3G next month - on November 15th to be exact. If Walmart is indeed getting the iPhone 3G, the timing makes sense with Black Friday coming just under two weeks later. Bringing the iPhone 3G to Walton’s wonder would definitely help ease the congestion a bit for those heading out to snag an iPhone 3G as a gift. Then again, considering you can’t leave a store without activating the handset first, we doubt the iPhone 3G will sell anywhere near as well as the iPhone did under the previous activation model here in the US.

Chronus is a iPhone 2.x replacement for the highly popular TimeCapsule backup application.

Chronus has been released for download on the Cydia Installer. If you have previously backed up your files with TimeCapsule in 1.x, the files that you should save and copy over to your computer are located at: /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/TimeCapsule. In the new firmware, you should put these files back to the same location.

The free version of Chronus is limited to one backup per application. If you have an old TimeCapsule serial it will work or you can purchase the app for $7.99.

IMPORTANT: Some users are having Chronus crash immediately at launch. This has been fixed and will be released in the soon coming Chronus 2.1. Chronus 2.1 will also come with some other features:
- email of backup
- backup all mode (only backups user-defined apps’s settings so it does not backup unnecessary files)
- addition of support through URL

The last feature above is probably the most exciting feature. Developers can now add support to their applications but specifying the parameters in a URL. Users will have surf to the developers’ website, click on the link and it will automatically launch Chronus and inserts all the necessary parameters. If this works out well, then there’s no need to wait for me to release a new update just to add support.

Yea. Normally the firemware files (the files that I know use that extension) come with them in just fine.

Tomorrow Apple is set to announce a new product. Most believe it will be updates for the MacBook and MacBook Pro and may include a trimmed down MacBook or NetBook that is around $800. This would be a light weight laptop built for mostly web or light weight apps. As great as all this sounds there may be something else, not coming from Apple, that integrates with your iPhone. It’s called the OLO computer. The feature that sets it apart from anything Apple has is the iPhone dock positioned right where the trackpad goes. I’ve thought about this and there are pros and cons to the whole idea. Now all we have is a picture and no specs so everything will be pure speculation.
Pros include the OS of the laptop which is OS X. Not sure how Apple is going to like that but I do. Other obvious features would be the iPhone charges while in the dock, you’ll have access to all your music, contacts, etc. and the iPhone would be your mouse so you would most likely have multitouch options.
All of that sounds great but here’s some problems I see. There are two models of iPhone so does it support both or just the new 3G? Is there an alternate mouse when the iPhone is not docked? Does the iPhone provide internet connection to the computer when docked? What happens when you get a phone call? If there aren’t positive solutions to these questions then this product may flop. We’ll keep an eye on it for you and get you specs once they are available.

Norwegian developer Erik Kristiansen has made it possible to run Windows Mobile on your iPhone similar to bootcamp.

When the iPhone boots you are presented with a Windows logo and an Apple logo. Select an icon and the corresponding OS will boot. Take a look at the video below.

Apparently that was faked & part of a viral marketing campaign from Sonic Emotion, a maker of surround-sound systems for PCs, handhelds, and other things that need surround sound as none of the facts added up.

Gear Log has provided the following explanation for why they think the video is a hoax:

"The demo supposedly took place at a "myPhone2008" conference in Las Vegas from Sept. 26-28. But according to Nancy Lee at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association, there was no such show. Events in Las Vegas during that period included the Pirrello/Sprung wedding, the ST/Dystonia Symposium, the Itazuke Alumni Reuinion, the Current Practice of Vascular Ultrasound and the Wealth Dynamics Experience. No "myPhone2008." Sorry.

Also, none of the various people mentioned on the site, except the Sonic Emotion folks, seem to exist. "Serling Technologies" has no Web site, and their fake product, "Twilight Scan," is a pun on the fact that Rod Serling was the host of "The Twilight Zone." "Markus Miller," supposedly a sales manager for this nonexistent convention, is a popular German soccer goalkeeper."

Actual photos claiming to be the new MacBook have surfaced online on Engadget.com.

These photos do seem to match the earlier confirmed case leaks. Engadget was also told that there's not one, but two NVIDIA GPUs inside.

Take a look!

[Update] Engadget has received information that the MacBook will feature "two full-on NVIDIA GPUs -- sounds like a hybrid SLI setup to us, which is pretty wild. Wilder still, they say the MacBook and 17-inch MacBook Pro aren't getting refreshed tomorrow!" (today)
___
Speaking of that anyone know where I could follow it? Apparently its not gettting as much press as the Let's Rock event in September.

Well Apple finally has a laptop that's under $1000 USD. Problem is it only made it there by a dollar.

With the new MacBooks released for over 24 hours some interesting secrets hiding within have been discovered.

Here is a quick rundown:
1. Yeah, target disk mode… about that…
2. The system migration tool has been updated
3. The system chipset has changed, not just the GPU
4. Break the glass screen fascia; replace the whole screen
5. The MacBooks run a special build of OS X, not yet released to other Macs
6. The battery indicator is now on the left side of the notebook
7. The chicklet keyboard on the MacBook is very firmly supported
8. The speakers are surprisingly good
9. The viewing angle on the LCD is still lacking
10. Installing a hard drive is now even more superbly easy

The iGPS360 module is a state-of-the-art GPS module that brings GPS capability to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Image

- The module is designed as a direct plug-in for your iPhone (both first generation and 3G) and iPod Touch (the module will not work on other iPod platforms or Apple devices). We also expect the module to work on the second generation iPod Touch once it has been jailbroken.

- The module has on-board battery back-up which will store the last acquired GPS satellite information on-board, enabling a fast GPS-lock re-acquisition time after the module has temporarily been switched off. For optimum on-board battery life and performance, it is advised that before first use of the module, you charge your iPhone/iPod Touch through the GPS module with the included USB cable for at least 16 hours. This will ensure that the battery inside of the GPS module is fully charged before first use. Overnight charging of your iPhone/iPod Touch through the GPS module should be done at least once a week in order to maintain last satellite data and user settings.

- The module is A-GPS enabled, meaning that satellite ephemeris/almanac data can optionally be uploaded to the module before you leave home. This A-GPS data enables the module to achieve an even faster cold-start GPS-lock (
- The module features a low current (
- The module ships with a 6ft micro-USB cable (USB-A to micro USB-B) which will allow you to charge and sync your iPhone/iPod Touch while the GPS module is plugged in (either at home or on the road).

- A smart keychain is currently in development that will extend the functionality of the iGPS360 module in such a way that the module can also be used on any laptop or desktop computer that has a USB port. The keychain will also allow for easy and safe storage of the iGPS360 module on your keychain when not in use. The keychain will be sold separately.

The module costs $75.00 and can be pre-ordered from Orange Gadgets at this link

The iPhone Dev-Team has made some significant progress on a 3G unlock this week.

Here’s a screenshot of a 3G iPhone whose baseband has been modified. And even though it’s modified — and fails the integrity check — it’s still running.

Image

Running modified baseband code is a very useful ability, but it’s still not possible to accurately estimate how close we are to the ultimate goal.

We had seen not one but four iPhone apps released last week which made it possible to compose and reply to email messages in either portrait or landscape mode on the iPhone to address one of the limitations of iPhone's Mail app as it does not support landscape mode.

However, the price iPhone users had to pay for this feature ranged from $0.99 (for TouchType, Wide Email, Compose) to $1.99 (for Side Ways).

Conceited Software has recently released Firemail which brings the landscape mode to iPhone's Mail app for free.

Firemail allows iPhone users to compose and reply to email messages in landscape mode. It also allows you to save email messages within the app (mimicking the save as draft functionality).

When you launch Firemail from the home screen, you get the compose screen in the landscape mode where you can type the Subject and the body of the message.

To compose a new message; all you need to do is write the subject and body of your message and hit the button on the bottom left hand corner. Here you get options: "Send to MobileMail", "Save to Bookmarks" and "Cancel". If you select "Send to MobileMail", it opens and auto-populates iPhone's Mail app. If you select "Save to Bookmarks" it results in saving the text of the email message.

If you want to use the email message that you had saved as bookmark, you can click on the bookmark button at bottom center and select the message from the list of bookmarks. After you select the bookmarked message, you will get options to "Insert", "Delete" and "Cancel", selecting "Insert" will result in the text getting inserted in the compose screen. The "Save to Bookmarks" would have been neat feature but the current implementation is not scalable (as only last 4 bookmarks are visible on the screen).

To reply to an email, you need to open an email in iPhone's Mail app and hit reply. Then hit the home button and launch Firemail. Here you can type the body of the message and hit the button on the bottom left hand corner where you will be prompted to similar options to composing an email message, however this time selecting "Send to MobileMail", will result in turn would open and auto-pupulate the message that you wanted to reply.

As I have mentioned before, apps like Firemail are definitely not the ideal solution and I would expect Apple to add landscape mode to iPhone's mail app sometime in the future, till then Conceited Software's Firemail is a good alternative if prefer to type your email messages in landscape vs. portrait mode and its a no-brainer as it is available for free as compared to other iPhone apps on the App Store.

You can download Firemail from the App Store using this link.
