The stands were packed at the Summit Raceway in Norwalk and with the pits filled at the same time the attendance was estimated at over 50,000– more than the average amount for NHRA National Events. This came as no surprise as the Night Under Fire has been recognized as the largest single-day Drag Racing event on the planet! It is an exhibition drag racing show open only to invited racers. Our very own local Sheldon Bissessar was specially invited to make some passes with three of the fastest Top Dragsters on the planet today including previous IHRA World Record holder Troy Stone.

T&T’s Sheldon Bissessar and his team have been invited to participate in drag racing’s largest festival of Fire and Power- The 34th Annual Night Under Fire held at (NHRA) Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk Ohio on Saturday August 13th2011. This race is the largest attended single-day drag racing event in the world. Sheldon will be competing during the show time of the event alongside drag racing legends John Force, Frank Hawley, Larry “Spiderman” McBride, Jim Head, Robert Hight and Jeff Arend.

After a strong semi-final finish at the Pro Top Outlaw Dragster Race at the Dorchester Dragway South Carolina on July 3rd, Sheldon and his entire Methanex/Total Lubricants sponsored race team headed to the NHRA Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis Indiana for the July 8th NAPA Friday Nite Rage presented by VP Fuels. This raceway is home to the largest and most prestigious drag race in the world- The NHRA US Nationals.

After setting the Top Dragster World Record at Palm Beach International Raceway Florida January 2011 , Sheldon also qualified no. 1 and won the Open Outlaw race at the NHRA Sunshine Dragstrip Florida February 2011. In the process, he reset the track record.
Sheldon is now rebuilding the entire car with some new advanced technology including the engine, chassis, supercharger,fuel system and electronics. The dragster is powered by a 526 ci supercharged hemi V8 running on 100% Methanol. Some advantages of using Methanol as fuel is the fact that it produces massive amounts of horsepower and it is a clean burning fuel.

The first IHRA Nitro Jam event for 2011 kicked off at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida where Methanex-sponsored Trinidad Rocket Sheldon Bissessar entered the Top Dragster competition. The first pass of the day yielded a 5.87-second time putting Sheldon Bissessar in the number one qualifying position.

Weather conditions were extremely harsh with ambient temperatures at roughly 30-40˚F which is great for building power for the engine but not so good for traction. This was evident in the few practice runs where trying to get the car to hook was seemingly impossible with the Rocket’s supercharged, methanol-powered engine.
For 2010, Sheldon has won all five International events entered so far in the United States and has set the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Top Dragster World Record in a ¼ mile time of 5.78 seconds at 242MPH.

The Trinidad Rocket driving his methanol powered supercharged hemi dragster wins his 4th consecutive race for 2010. The IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour at Mountain Park Dragway Clay City Kentucky saw Sheldon qualifying in the number one spot Friday night with 3.90 seconds at 186 MPH run. With two more qualifying runs on Saturday, Sheldon still managed to hold on to the number one spot. Rocky Flanagan of Tennessee and Melissa Hudson of Florida held on to the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.
