Brick laying

What's the cost to put up bricks now? My lil extension is 104ft in perimeter x 9ft high. Average cost to put up bricks with 2 (4 x6) windows on one wall and a 72x80 door opening?

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

I just did something similar but two stories. I added 10' to the side, rear and front of a house. I'm sorry I didn't take pics. You would have liked to see the joints. Plus the floor was recessed back to half of the existing beams before the new floor was tied into it and cast . The columns went fr...

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

Go read up on Steel bars bonded in concrete using epoxy resin and also seismic retrofitting and strengthening. You will get some ideas. If i'm not mistaken,I noticed in the pics that some of the steel in the trenches were just butting against the existing foundation ( of the house) . You should hav...

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

You could also cut away squares where you want the columns, dig out the concrete and dirt, make some footings ,insert the steel and recast. When you say cut away, up till the foundation blocks or footings? You mean like cut through the BRC etc? So you have foundation blocks and footings? Well half ...

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

You could also cut away squares where you want the columns, dig out the concrete and dirt, make some footings ,insert the steel and recast. I believe this is the best option for structural integrity. Three inches of rebar chemically anchored into a 4 inch floor will not provide as much strength com...

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

We even had short pieces of rebar vertical in every other block but simply forgot the tall ones at corners grr...

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

You can also use it to set up your first row of blocks on a floor by drilling ,inserting starter bars with epoxy and using vertical core blocks. Yoi have great ideas! We also thinking of doing wood walls instead using wood framing and concrete boards or wall sheating if we can find in Trinidad, but...

Re: Vertical Rebar in construction

Drill holes in the slab and use epoxy to secure the rods. Block up leaving space every ten feet on long walls and at corners where the walls meet , place the tied steel cages in the spaces and place formwork and cast the columns. Join them at the top with a continuous ring beam . This is not how it...

Vertical Rebar in construction

We are building a 40ft x 15ft extension flats. We forgot to put any vertical rebars for the columns after laying the foundation slab. Anyone with suggestions to prevent the wall from separating/falling in event of earthquake etc? Our idea is to dig 3ft on each corner right up against the existing fo...

Re: Trench or no trench. That's the question?!

So I ended up changing my contractor. But now that the foundation is done. It seems he left a 40ft wall ( a flats) without any steel rods for posts !! He mentioned about using vertical blocks at the corners and centre of the 40ft wall, along with grey concrete blocks to 'hold' the wall together. Wil...

Re: Trench or no trench. That's the question?!

You should do a trench, tie the steel through the corner posts and to the roof. Build it good and strong... remember we had big earthquake and bret pass through a couple years ago. Yes and that put tiny cracks in one of my beams. The beam that cracked was built by the same builder? Lol nah. This is...

Re: Trench or no trench. That's the question?!

I want to build an extension infront my house. My house is a corner lot. The road goes right along the side I intend on doing my extension. My contractor insists that it's a small extention and needs no trench under the foundation as I intend to caste right out till the road anyway. Won't a missing...

Re: Trench or no trench. That's the question?!

A trench typically is required when you need to stabilize a heavy upper structure. You don't always need a trench however, as my two port garage, which was constructed afterwards had none, and it is very heavy as I cast the top 4 inches thick with a 4 foot wall all around, to put in an entertainmen...
