Re: New Trinidad Traffic Fines + Demerit + Fixed Penalty System

I could nit pick about 1 or 2 other offenses that should have been included but generally I think the government got it right on this one. The narrative aside the demerit points system was not scrapped, it was adjusted to be less draconian.

Re: T&T OFFICIAL New Vehicle Prices & Discussion Thread

I see the government has removed all duties on lithium batteries, this could actually boost resale values on EVs 8-10 years down the road

Decent move

Re: T&T OFFICIAL New Vehicle Prices & Discussion Thread

Sold in India starting at 13000 us with top spec of 20000 US How ANSA reach 37000 US? Yet people will rush and buy it. What is the tax structure on vehicles in India? Just be mindful when comparing ICE vehicles EVs are better to compare cross border as many countries give tax breaks for purchasing ...

Property Tax in Trinidad & Tobago

Yikes what a time to be alive yes Tax on what you earn - PAYE Tax on what you own - Property TAX Tax on what you purchase - VAT, Duty, etc. Adulting is ghetto People’s attitude would be better if we got better value for all these taxes combined. There is too much wastage in the system but if we are...

Re: New Trinidad Traffic Fines + Demerit + Fixed Penalty System

Fundamentally I support a demerit points system to curb bad habits and improve safety, but not the structure of the one we currently have in place. Points should only apply to moving violations ONLY like speeding, running stop lights, shoulder driving, reckless driving, cell phone use while driving ...

Re: *** The 2025 GENERAL ELECTION thread***

Was there ever a recount in a General Election that actually resulted in a different outcome? To me unless the margin is under 20, it feels like a futile exercise

I remember a local govt seat that the recount switched back and forth but the margin was like single digits

Re: UNC in govt 2025-2030!!!

I think it’s a bit of smart politics by the TPP staying out of the cabinet appointments if they were even offered. Some bills are simple majority, others are 2/3rds and 3/4th They can lobby for what they want without the accountability of being the government and can pivot if their base becomes dise...

Re: *** The 2025 GENERAL ELECTION thread***

Remarkable results congrats to the UNC they ran an effective campaign, to me the digital campaign was key, people spend so much time lollygagging on their phone on Tik Tok and Instagram and Facebook for the older heads. Soliciting those “influencer” accounts to campaign for them clearly worked. I sa...

Incumbency is hard, a third term is almost unprecedented, you are judged on performance past over promise tomorrow. No matter how well you were able to manage in tough times

I have listened to all sides on the campaign trail, my takeaway is simply: Incumbency in government is hard, that is it Incumbents have generally struggled to retain power because any semblance of responsible governance is usually a mix of popular and unpopular decisions and let’s be frank, it matte...

5.4/5.5km/l is quite bad. Even the 12km/l isn't all that great but in your opinion are those numbers Suv territory?
