Re: Official Old School Spotters Thread

The original Cobra had a Ford 427 that is a Chev engine in there just not sure what config , Yes, the big V8 was the sideoiler 427, and the little one was the 289, both Fords. This car has a small-block Chevy V8, most likely a 350 or 305. Looks great, I would have gone with the Ford 5.0 engine thou...

Some of the racing wheels were actually made from magnesium, hence Mags. Edge, the escort looks great. Did you ever try mounting the reverse lights (W...

Not typical Porsche though... 928 is front engine V8 RWD. Just driver error I think, the escort certainly running great though.

Start the car from cold, as in cold from sitting overnight. Well.. before you start the car, check the coolant level in the radiator, top up if necessary and put the cap back on. Start the car, and hold the RPMs at about 2000 for about 2 mins. Now go and remove the radiator cap again. If there is an...

Agreed. The setup for that job would take alot of time and probably cost quite a bit. Here is my question... If you line-bore the cam bearing surfaces, won't the dimensions be oversized for the camshaft journals? The cam just rides on the alloy head machined surface right? Or does the new cam have o...

Yeah that is scary... especially when you spending so much on parts. I guess that is why everybody just swaps complete engines or heads.

Does that engine use replaceable cam bearings? If it's a late model japanese engine, probably not, as their journals are machined for the cam to run directly on them. In that case, you are right in that the bearing caps are not interchangeable. I don't think you can do much here. I wouldn't try it w...

i'm going to run an engine flush to make sure the pin hole in the tensioner is clean.. I would not advise you to do an engine flush on that engine... or any engine for that matter, especially with the higher miles. Would be best to actually remove the tensioner from the engine and take it apart and...

You are lucky in that you have some decent parts to begin with. It already has HEI distributor (electronic ignition) and a 4-barrel factory intake manifold. I would ditch that factory Rochester Quadraject carburetor in favor of an Edelbrock 1407 which is a 750cfm Weber designed carb. You'll need a s...

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Check all the hoses going into the intake manifold. Also check the rubber/plastic intake hose between the airbox and throttlebody for cracks.

No it's a V8... the two middle exhaust ports are next to each other, so it looks like 3 ports on each side.
