nigel makin sense there and as u done say you running a small system 2ohm mono on an amp that takin 8 guage wire probably is the problem right there. A high power amp was takin minimum 4 guage wire

BTW remember if the guy decides to upgrade his engine
more hp to rear wheels will be a bit harder to control......

i had a friend with the same problem was his ground though what you might want to do is make SURE the point where u are grounding is thoroughly sanded no paint at all.
also you sure the amp can run at 2 ohms? that could be your problem right there
