ES8 CVT no shift when cold...help

Postby stock » February 20th, 2015, 6:48 am

On my 2002 ES 8 honda civic...when the car starts in the morning, the gears dont engage until, say after 10 mins. 20 on a cold morning. As if it has to warm up. If i keep my foot on the gas heavy it will engage but with a violent jerk, which i prefer not to do. Transmission works fine otherwise.

Tried a flush at autonation and problem subsides but comes back after about 2 weeks. Car is doing 306000km and I drain and refill monthly just to try to keep it going...

Anyone had this problem before or knows how to troubleshoot it?

308k and counting...doing a flush this weekend then checking how many days and km it lasts. If it doesn't last that long. I guess permanent damage is done and start shopping for a transmission.

yes original engine too...

Drained and refillled 3 times...fluid colour went from dark brown to pinkish orange. Compared to colour of new CVT fluid (pinkish orange). Shifts in one go at cold start...keeping my fingers crossed.

I drive in a lot of traffic so I guess that means "harsh driving conditions" and may need to change my fluid more often. Did the flush on the 23rd March so counting to see how long it lasts. Hopefully won't have to change the transmission...

So despite these efforts a couple months ago the car just refused to move on the highway...towed it to chaguanas auto supplies' the closest place I could think of. They test drove the car and couldn't find the problem....I had enough, sourced a tranny in d bamboo and swapped it out. Car runs better now, no such problems....315000km on a cvt transmission in T&T weather, and stop and go traffic....I guess that's not too bad. :-)

Best of luck with yours!
