2016 Honda Civic (10th Generation)

Postby SRASC » April 1st, 2015, 5:08 pm

Honda has taken the New York Auto Show by storm as the Japanese automaker has just unveiled the Civic Concept.

Previewing the tenth-generation production model, the “ultra-sporty Civic Concept” paves the way for a new styling direction set to be seen on the 2016 Civic which will be offered in the following flavors: Sedan, Coupe, Si, hatchback and most importantly, Type R.

The concept depicted in these images comes with a longer wheelbase in a lower and wider body with an elongated hood and a shorter front overhang. It also boasts a shorter rear deck and more pronounced fender arches while up front there are LED headlights flanking Honda’s “Flying H” grille while below there are beefy air intakes. At the back it hosts a fixed wing (incorporating third brake light), interconnected LED taillights and a single hexagonal center-mounted exhaust tip.

As far as the production model, the 2016 Honda Civic (US-spec) will be offered with a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo direct-injection engine coupled to a six-speed short-shifting gearbox or a newly developed CVT. It will be available with a wide variety of safety & assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera along with the firm’s next-gen Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure.

The next generation Honda Civic is scheduled to go on sale this fall in United States.

Thanks to the sleuths at CivicX.com, we've now got our first glimpse at the production 2016 Honda Civic. The forum found these patent drawings from Honda, showing the next-generation Civic in both coupe and sedan body styles, and we're happy to report that the car seen here is very, very close to the concept we saw in New York earlier this month.

Shortly after Honda debuted the Civic Coupe concept at the New York Auto Show, we spoke to the car's lead designer, Guy Melville-Brown, about how this bold two-door would transform into a production model. He told us the Civic should be "a halo product for Honda," and that the concept showed "elements of what we can expect from the production car." The showcar is "what a true Honda Civic should be," Melville-Brown said.

Now that we see these patent drawings, a lot of that makes sense. Sure, it's all been toned down for production spec (as expected), but a lot of the bolder design cues are still present. We like the angular shape of the headlamps and front fascia, and we're glad the wraparound taillamps were left alone (on the coupe, anyway – the sedan uses a slightly different design).

CivicX.com has more information, including side-by-side comparisons between the patent pictures and the bright green concept.

We have already seen the upcoming 2016 Honda Civic testing multiple times, but for the first time we now have images of the interior.

While half of the dash is covered by a multi-colored blanket, we get a good glimpse of the 2016 Honda Civic interior, revealing the heavy revisions that have come to the center stack, infotainment unit and gauge cluster.

The multi-tier gauge cluster and infotainment screen is gone, replaced by a more conventional look that has all of the gauges housed under one cover. Physical buttons and knobs have been brought back to the center stack as well, replacing the touch-sensitive buttons that are in the current 2014 Civic.

A large storage bin is seen just behind the gear sheit while the armrest also appears to be capable of storing items.

This looks like the US only version. I sat in the AUDM model and it was pretty similar to the last gen one, except they replaced the key with a fob and a few other interior mods

The plan is the 10th gen would be a global car, as in everyone gets the same, so no specific EDM & USDM as it has been in the last couple of years, though Honda America taking the lead as far as design

It'll probably not be sold in Australia then. Government demands for automotive 'standards' are borderline silly imo.

A new set of 2016 Honda Civic spy photos have just rolled in, offering a glimpse at some of the car’s details.

Inside, the new Civic appears to be heavily revised, with an entirely new center stack that gets rid of the current’s cars two-display setup. Leather and carbon fiber trim can be seen in the photos, along with a button for rear seat heaters. Storage is also not in short supply, with two large bins on either side of the shifter.

Pictures from underneath the new Civic show off the updated single and dual exhaust setups, while the tires being used on these prototypes are 15/50R17s on Firestone FT140 tires, and 215/55R16s on Hankook Kinergy GT rubber. Honda’s Lanewatch system is also present, which houses a camera in the passenger side mirror that eliminates blind spots by showing you what is directly beside your car.

Up front, new LED headlights that seem to mimic what we see on the new 2016 Accord are present. They were seen on the same model with the leather and heated rear seats, likely to be the top-trim Civic.

Honda says that this new Civic will mark the return of “fun-to-drive” to the brand’s cars. Part of this plan includes a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will be available with the Civic. A new Type R model is also coming to the U.S., though it may not arrive until 2018.

Here is hoping we get the 1.5L turbo in T&T, but then again its Ansa we dealing with ... they will give us N.A engine that grossly over priced.

The last-generation Honda Civic had trouble out of the gate, with the Japanese automaker quickly revamping it shortly after it arrived on the market. Now, Honda is hoping to turn the page with its all-new 10th-generation model that has been rebuilt from the ground up. In fact, Honda claims that the new 2016 Civic is the biggest complete redesign for the model ever as it hopes to recapture the sporty appeal it used to be known for.

Built on a wheelbase that is 1.2 inches longer, the new Civic sits one inch lower and is two inches wider.

The new Civic will come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower while a more powerful turbocharged 1.5-liter mill will be available with 174 hp. The company is being vague on fuel economy figures, but promises that it’ll deliver over 40 mpg on the highway.

Honda Press Release wrote:Dynamically Styled, More Powerful and Fuel-Efficient 2016 Honda Civic Coupe Makes First Public Appearance at Los Angeles Auto Show

Nov 17, 2015 - TORRANCE, Calif.
2016 Civic Coupe set to launch in March as the latest addition to Honda's expansive and sporty new 10th-generation Civic lineup
Lower roofline, more compact form and signature taillight differentiate the more personal and sporty Coupe design
Two powerful and fuel-efficient powerplants, including first ever Honda turbo engine for Civic Coupe
State-of-the-art connectivity with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay™ and new Honda embedded navigation system by Garmin
Sporty and spacious, interior space grows by 8.4 cubic feet and rear-seat legroom is up more than 5 inches.
The newest member of the completely reengineered and reimagined 10th-generation Civic lineup – the 2016 Civic Coupe – will make its first public appearance at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Launching in March, the 2016 Civic Coupe delivers an even sportier and emotional take on the new Civic design while benefitting from the multitude of upgrades to the 10th-generation Civic lineup, including a sophisticated and sporty new chassis, a more spacious and quieter cabin, class-leading fuel-economy ratings and targeted top-in-class crash safety ratings.

The new 2016 Civic Coupe, like its sedan counterpart, will feature two advanced new engines, including the first-ever turbo engine for the Coupe, delivering more power, performance and fuel efficiency. All new Civic Coupes, from the well-equipped LX to the new, line-topping Touring trim, also receive significant upgrades to interior style, with soft-touch materials and high-grade finishes, along with a bevy of new standard and available features, including the Honda Sensing™ suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies as well as both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

“We continue on our epic 10th-generation Civic journey with the sportiest, most sophisticated and tech-savvy Civic Coupe yet,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and general manager of the Honda Division. “I think our customers are going to be utterly surprised by what this new Coupe delivers in terms of refinement, safety, efficiency and fun-to-drive performance.”

The 2016 Civic Coupe is the second in a series of new 10th-generation Civic models that Honda is launching over the course of the next 18 months, including the Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe, the first-ever Civic 5-door hatchback for the U.S. market, Civic Si performance variants and for the first time in the U.S., the radical new Civic Type-R.

Civic Coupe Styling
The 2016 Civic Coupe carries forward the sporty and premium character of the 10th-generation Civic design, including the bold front fascia, fast-back profile and sharp-edged detailing, as well as its more athletic wheels out proportions – its longer wheelbase (+2.9 inches), wider body (+1.9 inches), shortened front overhang (-1.4 inches) and wider stance. The new Coupe also benefits from the lower seating position, or hip point, of the new Civic platform, which amplifies the Coupe's low, wide and planted dynamic driving character.

From the A-pillars rearward, the Coupe features unique exterior styling with a lower and more steeply raked roofline, nearly 1 inch lower than the Sedan, and more compact proportions, with the rear overhang and overall length shortened by 5.5 inches. The new Coupe also features an exclusive rear taillight design that carries the arch of the distinctive C-shaped LED taillights across the full length of the rear deck lid.

Sporty and Spacious Coupe Interior
The 2016 Civic Coupe's sportier design does not come at the expense of passenger comfort, as interior space grows by 8.4 cubic feet and rear seat legroom is increased by more than 5 inches, compared to the outgoing Coupe model. The new Civic Coupe interior strikes a more premium tone with high-quality materials and high-contrast finishes. These include a new one-piece, soft-touch instrument panel with molded stitching; more premium seat fabrics; a new full-color TFT center meter (EX and above trims); door inserts with real stitching; an LED shift indicator and LED overhead lighting; and for EX and higher trims, a leather shift lever boot.

Civic Coupe Feature Upgrades
All new Civic Coupes, from the well-equipped LX to the new line-topping Touring, feature upgraded interiors and an expanded list of standard and available technologies and features. New standard equipment includes auto on/off headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, acoustic glass windshield, automatic climate control (dual-zone in upper trims), Electric Parking Brake with Brake Hold and Walk-Away auto door locks. New available features include Honda LED headlights, Remote engine start, heated front seats and side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, full-color TFT center meter and seven-inch Display Audio touchscreen.

Civic Coupe Audio and Connectivity
The new Civic Coupe delivers the latest in audio and connected-car technology, including more powerful audio systems; an available new Android OS-based, 7-inch Display Audio touch screen interface; a bevy of streaming audio options such as Pandora®, SiriusXM® and HD Radio™; and for trims with Display Audio, full compatibility with both Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® platforms. The Civic Coupe highest trims will also feature a new Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ developed in cooperation with the experts at Garmin.

Advanced New Powertrains
The 2016 Civic Coupe will launch with two more powerful and fuel-efficient powertrains, Lower trims receive a new 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC™ engine turning out 158 horsepower and 138 lb.-ft. of torque1 (+15 HP and +9 lb.-ft. vs. 2015 Civic 1.8L) with anticipated EPA fuel-economy ratings of 31/41/35 mpg2 (city/highway/combined) for models equipped with CVT. This engine can also be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission on the lowest trim. Civic Coupe mid to highest trims are powered by a new 1.5-liter DOHC direct-injected TURBO – the first-ever turbocharged engine for Civic Coupe – putting out a peak 174 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque3 (+31 HP and +33 lb.-ft. vs. 2015 Civic 1.8L) with anticipated EPA ratings of 31/42/35 mpg2.

Advanced Safety Performance
The 2016 Civic Coupe utilizes Honda's next generation Advanced Compatibility Body Structure™ (ACE™) working in conjunction with advanced airbags and seatbelts to provide a high degree of safety performance. Utilizing these systems in conjunction with the available new Honda Sensing™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, the 2016 Civic Coupe with Honda Sensing™ targets the highest available U.S. safety ratings – an NCAP 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Hatchback's turn

Honda fans, it’s time to get excited again, because the Civic Hatch has debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, and it looks so good.

But don’t get too excited just yet. Honda says this Civic Hatch is just a prototype, but we really hope the production model stays true to this concept because it looks legitimately sporty. With a low, long and wide stance, the proportions are just right and from all the Civics unveiled so far, this is the most aggressive looking one yet. Just look at the short overhangs, huge air intakes and center mounted exhaust. They are just a few of the many little details that Honda uses to give the hatch a sportier look. The Japanese automaker promises “rewarding driving dynamics and versatile practicality.”

When the car debuts, you can expect the same engines offered on the rest of lineup: a base 2.0-liter four cylinder with 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque, and an upgraded 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual or CVT will be available with both engines, and the hatch will also get an Si version and be the basis for the future Type R.

The 10th-generation Civic Coupe will be built in the U.K. and will hit dealer showrooms in Europe in early 2017.

Honda has promised that the hatch will be sold in North America this time around, something Honda fans have been asking for. It has been at least 10 years since a Civic hatch was sold here, so this has been a long time coming. And if the production version looks like this concept, then maybe it was worth the wait.

Apparently coming in September.

Also apparently could get 2 engine options (unless they just blindly using stock images (which I've seen them do and fail at, advertising an Accord with a picture of a lightly visually modified Civic))
