Underbody Coating\Treatment

Postby venum » June 8th, 2007, 9:50 pm

What are the options on the market?

I know of the ValueGuard (done on all Nissans out of the firm) done at The Service Centre

and Ziebart done by MasterServe I believe

what are you guys take on this for passenger cars?

Is this recommended on new, modern vehicles?

someone told me that the Ziebart coating is removed when an under wash is done - is this true?

the guys who do the ValueGuard treatment told me that under-washing does strip off the coating

i dunno much about these coatings...what exactly do they do?...im guessing prevention of rusting?...

if so...would regular underwashing/shock oil spray every 4mths or so be enuff?

the valugard/ziebart coating that's done to most new vehicles (all of massy's) is just rustproofing.

no underbody coating is done really... just the rustproofing.

the underbody coating can be done at hydrocarb in fyzabad, i think they use the same material as the rhino... so if they use the rhino, i guess ziebart does it as well.

Venum has an additional chalange of more than normal road salt to deal with. Underwashing every 4 months ain't going to cut it in this case.

Interested in this as well. I noticed that some of my undercoating came off with the last underwash by the wheel wells.

Diesel spray... shock oil etc. stops squeeks for a while... but not much else IMHO.
BTW I've run a Service Station for 18 years.
Maybe this method might help... especially for unprotected or rusty areas.
Sanctifier wrote:Spray internal box sections + under the whole floorpan + wheelarches with:

------> Phosphoric acid (Wonder etc.) to avoid re-rusting.

------> (#1) Zinc Chromate Yellow Primer... or (#2) Red Oxide Primer using gun below... etc.

------> 3M Body Shutz... Rubberized undercoating... This is the BEST!
.......... using 3M applicator gun + wand to spray inside box sections.

------> FoamSeal Expanded Urethane Foam... If you have NO more air cavities left...
......... Then you have no more space for moisture to collect... and NO more rust.

BTW after "box sections" etc. don't forget under the floor-pan...
PAINT the complete floor-pan (yup... OVER the 3M Body Shutz) with epoxy paint or similar.
It protects undercoat and any future damage/cracking/rust is easily seen and corrected.

Did this (except FoamSeal) to a Hino 10-ton dump truck cab already.
It lasted for YEARS!... Setting up now to do all three projects as well.
More details here... WTB: Used AC/DC Welding Plant

venum

the undercoating would be taken off when those gas stations or anyone else that does it uses the keroscene if you look at when they do it at Service Centre they don't use any chemicals for a underwash.

have a chat with Richard the manager from Service Centre....he might do the spraying for you

Stay Tuned i believe it can

Can't think of anyone offhand. Cheapest way, may be to rent a spare ramp (+ air supply)
for 2-3 hours each time on slow days at Muffler shop / Service Station with extra lift???

ALL steps are DIY (1st) or bring hired painter (2nd.) or hire service-man there (3rd.)

My Dad and I did the Hino cab at the painter's shop years ago.
It will take me weeks by myself but it's DIY for me, to guarantee a thorough job
... and because then labour is free.

BTW I'm suggesting that ALL the steps be done for complete protection.

I'd like to do this myself, but I don't even have a compressor. :(

Any new info? Updates on service centres or where this can be done perhaps!

Looking for an under coating solution for Delivery Trucks. I called Hydro Carb just now & they told me that they no longer offer that service.

Does anyone know where I can get the product, I can apply myself. If not the product the service?

Delivery Trucks... Nope, sorry. I hope to buy 3 trucks early next year... but I'll have to do the undercoating myself.

Call 3M for an estimate of quantity req'd and a quote for their Body Schutz.
