Want To Know-B14 TURBO

Postby SouthZone » August 20th, 2007, 10:57 am

I have a ga15 Turbo and I am currently running 5lbs of Boost. I need a faster pull off in order to beat the SR20 or RB in the 1/4 mile stretch. What I need to know is that if it is recommended to run 10 to 12 pounds of boost only for a 1/4 mile stretch. My mechanic says that I have to install a manual boost controller so i can turn it up to 10 or 12 pounds only to run it for the 1/4 mile and turn it back down as soon as I done. What u guys think?

make sure ur intake (good filter) and fuel pump is good when attempting to turn up boost.once those in order u should be a bit safer .

All these along with a fuel regulator to turn up boost safely. This also depends on what type of turbo you have compared to the sr20's you wanna run. i find that 11-12 lbs on that engine is dangerous!!!

true but

thas only the begining of the grocery list.
you will defenitly need other things to make sure your engine lasts the 1/4 mile at all.

do some reading,
so you can tell the mechanic what yu need to get.

a sound investment for u will be a management system like the E-manage blue, or even a SAFC.....jus crankin boost and regulatin fuel alone wont cut it....short term maybe, but u will cook that engine faster than u can runthe 1/4 :|

GA15 is the vertically mounted throttle body right? (i.e. facing up), i know the GA16 is regular horizontally mounted, try getting a GA16 intake manifold, make an adapter plate ( not sure if its necessary) and use the GA16 intake manifold, it should have a slightly bigger throttle body, and be mounted for easy intercooler pipe fabrication as well...u should also look into getting..

-metal head gasket
-rising rate fuel pressure regulator
-fuel pump with bigger flow capacity
-if its a GA15, try getting injectors (or an entire fuel rail) that will work, that has larger injectors, not sure if GA16 will work..
-make sure ur ignition system is up to mark, get some NGK iridiums if u can atleast...i would retard timing a bit as welll just to be safe..
-get an air/fuel gauge, so atleast if u see the engine starts to run lean u can back off and save it or reduce damage..
-make sure your vacuum lines on the wastegate etc are good and not slack, u dont want any boost spike @ 10/12psi on a GA with stock internals...not nice..
-if u cant get at least a piggyback to 'tune' ur car, i wouldnt recommend going past 10psi..

my 2cents, that said, i hope u not going street racing eh pal
