Any feedback on Dunlop SP Sport 601 or Sumitomo HTR 200? Any good?

I rather the thread pattern on the 601. Used both but was more aware of the 601 tyre than the 200.

Guys

I need some urgent assistance here:

A tyre on my wife's car popped thru the sidewall yesterday.
Sad part is, the tyres have less than 5000kms on them.

I need to get back either 1 or i'll have to resort to buying a pair.

Its a continental tyre.
215/55/17

Who sells continental locally?

Time for new tyres. 215-45-17

DZ102 is just ok on the dry, noisy AF and pretty sheit in the wet.

Mileage Mack has:

Toyo T1 Sport - $960
Toyo Proxes TM1 - $960
Kumho KH27 All Season - $850 (This out as its an all season tyre)

Any opinions on the Toyos? Other recommendations at $1k max?

Want a non chinese Summer performance tyre. Car is not very powerful but the wife drives on the highway to POS daily and she speeds. A lot.

I think for a daily regular beater kumho and hankook are hard to beat. Even the Goodyear's are not bad either.

Got some "Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Wide Oval" 215/45/17 by M. Ramrattan. $750 each. Treadwear 320. Not bad for an everyday tyre.

Thanks, will look at all the above, with the exception of maybe the Maxxis.

Not convinced about Maxxis. Many people have said they're good, but these people also told me DZ102 good.

I have trouble accepting a chinese brand can outperform the old trusted names. Maybe I'm wrong, but is just me.

Need a tyre to handle the daily POS run as well as 6AM Las Cuevas and the twice yearly run through Forest Reserve in Tobago

I have comforser (works great) at the back and the Maxxis at the front no problems wet or dry thus far the Maxxis has a 420 thread wear and a 8.5 out of 10 review avg on most reputable tire websites

Sorry man, trying to avoid chinese tyres.

Stopping distance, especially in wet, wet handling, hydroplaning and noise are very important to me. Any tyre can work ok in the dry if not pushed. Chinese tyres are not particularly well known for these traits, especially in the same tyre.

give Kaums muffler in barataria a call...they sell some firestone and bridgestone in the tire department
prices were not bad and they have some tire specials through the year
a 15" bridgestone potenza was like 611 VI

also vibes courts megastore on the highway, i think they get stock from kamus but may have what is sold out at kamus

Checked Courts first. Tyres on credit would have been awesome, but , alas not in my size.

The DZ102 not bad, but I can confirm they noisy as hell, especially on the grainy road surface. Holds good imo, in wet n dry. Haven't had any hydroplaning issues

Not everything made by a reputable brand is worthy of praise... And not everything that comes out of China is cheap garbage.

Not all maxxis are good but the same can be said for bridgestone, Michelin, kumho, Dunlop, sumitomo, Goodyear, Hankook, pirelli, etc. Sometimes you realize that a tyre you deemed as being bad, was a lot better than you give it credit for because you haven't driven on much else.

Give us an idea of what you have driven on before

Every brand has budget tyres. Buy whatever big name you want but their bottom of the barrel tyre and its going to be sheit. I have not used Maxxis and probably not going to, or any chinese brand tyre, PERIOD.

I have used the following:

Note, I drive HARD and not willing to compromise my 4 little patches of contact with the road.

Toyo Proxes Vimode - Only in a 14" size but was light years ahead of DZ102
Kumho Ecsta SPT - Same as above, less straight line traction than the Toyo. Noisy halfway through.
Sumitomo HTR ZIII - Still more of the same (These were FU though)
Hankook Ventus Evo 2 - Cost a shitload to import, not willing to pay so much this time. Maybe the best I've used.
DZ101 and now DZ102 - 102 an improvement over 101, however on even mildly wet roads, there is enough loss of grip to be concerned, and not in a predictable way either. I have upgraded brakes and no ABS on one car and its level front wheel lockup even from 60kph and less.

My bar is pretty high so forgive me for being skeptical when someone says Maxxis or Comforser works well.

Maxxis makes some helluva mountain bike tires, though. They also build to spec for many of the major brands. You really don't know "exactly" what you're getting unless you look at a particular tire model. BUT some of what you've listed, I've used and concluded that they were solid choices for summer performance tires.

From Consumer Reports:

"For instance, BFGoodrich is owned by Michelin, based in France; Firestone is owned by Bridgestone (Japan); and General is owned by Continental (Germany). Yokohama is a Japanese company.

Complicating national pedigree further, manufacturers might not build all their models exclusively in any one country. The Goodyear tires we tested were built in Canada, Chile, Germany, and the U.S. Michelin tires were manufactured in Italy, Spain, and the U.S., but none came from France. And the tires we tested from Italian tire maker Pirelli were made in Mexico and Russia.

Our testing program showed no clear trend that would correlate performance with country of origin, even by tire type. Still, it is interesting to see that 40 percent of the all-season tires were made in the U.S.; in contrast only 1 of 23 winter tires was built here.

So, national bragging rights have no traction—especially when so many tires are not built in the brand’s home nation. The closest trend we found is that Consumer Reports’ top scoring all-season, performance all-season, and winter tires came from Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Russia, and the U.S.

If you’re looking for the best tires for your car or truck, review Consumer Reports performance Ratings rather than judge by a tire’s nationality."

Your standards are high and the Hankook Ventus Evo2 was maybe the best? That was actually the worst I used. Not bad but was on the lower end of my spectrum. Even the Cooper Zeon RS3-S which was rated lower than the Hankook I rathered than the Hankooks. What sort of drivetrain and power did you use them on and what terrain?
