Readout on oil Gauge stuck

Postby live67 » March 1st, 2010, 6:46 am

I have an autometer digital oil pressure gauge. Coming down the road this morning, I noticed that after I stopped, the gauge stuck on a high reading and doesn't come back down, even after re-starting the engine.

Any comments as to what have may caused this?

Any way to reset a (digital) gauge?

Thanks for all your help in the past.

Digital gauge or are you referring to an electronic gauge with sender?
Does it have a stepper motor?

The sender may have gotten damaged or the stepper motor may be shot...

If you suspect the gauge itself, try disconnecting/reconnecting 12Vpower to see if you can get the needle to move

Where is the sender module located? Above the oil filter?

Thank you very much.

the gauge has a pointer i.e. needle? if it does.....tap it with something solid like a screwdriver handle........sometimes mechanical linkages may be stuck....even though its an electronic device......
if its a digital readout....disregard this comment.
