moving the plate / saucer to lower the car?

I was told that this plate / saucer that the spring rests on can be shifted upwards a bit to lower the height of the car.
Ride quality does not change & shocks & springs do not have to be changed.

are there any cons to this? all I looking for is a 1.5 - 2" drop.

this is usually done to use bigger wheels, so they may clear the spring AFAIK.

well I am keeping my 17" rims, I ave no intention of going bigger. I just want to close up the gap between the tyre's edge & fender a bit.

buy drop springs, when you weld back the saucer on the shock it tends to damage the seal and cause the shock to prematurely wear. all these shortcuts of droppin car imho is a waste of time

but dont drop springs have an uneven drop from front to back?

I thought it was bolted on or something.

is there anywhere that can properly weld that up? con someone give me a bit more info (or an illustrated diagram) as to what is done & damaged / may be damaged?

there is no skill in welding it, it was never meant to take welding after manufacturing, dont waste your time. there are spring by teins pm tuner imports it gives you about a 1.3" drop

^^slacks i can't believe someone like u thought u gonna use bolts to hold the saucer in place man! remember the saucer has the tension of the spring to hold.no bolt can hold that tension for a prolonged period!

as said above,don't waste ur time on those short cut.if u look at it,raising the saucer will raise the car not drop the car,that's y as said above u do it to accommodate big wheels.those 17's u running will lose away in ur n16.no need to raise saucer.

if u wanna corner hard, at speeds of 140km and above and don't mind a real bumpy ride on rough roads,sleeve type coliovers for it. if u want to have as close to OEM ride drop springs or lowering springs will be ur friend!

*i rode in a b12 with 205/40/17 wheels on some drop springs and the car felt like u riding in brand new one bro! drop was about 1.5 -2''*

I do mind a bumpy ride in rough roads. I hardly frequent rough roads but I dont want to sacrifice much ride comfort.

what springs you used man?

get a set of lowering springs. if you can't stand the way the ride looks till you get them you can always take off a coil

this thread is all over the place.
First off lowering the "saucer" (spring perch) would infact lower you car because you are moving the spring mounting point lower down the strut. You would still keep you stock ride firmess/softness since the spring and consequently the spring rate was not changed. However, lowering the spring perch will reduce your strut rod dampening movement causing them to bottom out more often and lead to them blowing out.

The sleeve type coilovers straight from ebay and installed on your car is a horrible idea. Those spring rates usually are way to stiff and ride like crap. To properly run those sleeve type coil overs you would need to modify your strut alot. For starters the spring perch would need to be adjusted to compensate for the sleeve height of the coilover as well as how low you wanna go with your car. You would also need at least a decent strut.

True Coilovers that will last are pricey as hell and really not worth it if you dont know what you are doing. If you're just doing it to be low then you are just blowing your money away since you can go lower without those coilovers.

Drop springs are your best bet. Just note that the stock struts were not designed for the higher spring rates of drop rates. This means a shorter life span for your struts. Get some good struts and you should be good to go.
If you are just going for the lowered look and want ride comfort then get some progressive lowering springs. Personally I dont like these.
If you want performance then get linear lowering springs.
Note that not all lowering springs are equal and not all advertised drops are true. For example some ads list a 2.5" drop all around but once installed you may see the front lower than the rear or vice versa. So my advice would be to look around and see what others have to say.

thank god for that ... i was twitching here reading the madness above jnqaz..... i liked the progressive B+G's i had on my lancer.. i will kick in the head then sit on ( u need to see my size) any one i know personaly with sleeve coilovers...i have Rs*R and tien drop springs on my civc.. mmm nice ride untill a pothole asks for sudden compresion then bang... but..meh...the tiens are a nice option but get the luxury drop one ( i cant rember the model..) it will make ur ride nice check tuner imports charlieville( i think)

^^^ same set up in the Corolla...RS*R in front and Tein S-tech rear, both progressive...about a 1.5" drop all around and teamed up with the KYB gr-2 shocks rides pretty nice n' firm without breaking your neck on potholes
