in my experience where it knocks around 2k-3k just like that, is usually a rod bearing

it sounds that way. If the oil pan could drop easily....its not hard to check.

this i have done it twice now

get the block pulled out get the bearing halves out check them and replace them if worn get a machine shop to check your rods

Why would he have to pull out the entire block to check for a spun bearing? See my previous post ^^^
