Boost guys, where can I get this locally?

Postby Hook » May 26th, 2015, 9:53 am

I need to repair a vacuum line off an intake hose, so I'll need one of these ASAP:

The end result of the tap will look like this (sans turbo of course):

Sorry I wasn't too clear before. It's a broken vacuum port on a rubber intake hose for a n/a car that I need to repair.

Will a 0.25" NPT to a vacuum barb work if I can get a suitable thread nut to fit the NPT end?

Sorta like this?

You see that nut that you have in the intake hose... what happens if it gets loose?

Even if it does, which is unlikely, it's before a 20V intake airbox, so it'll just rattle around in there.

It's not a permanent fix anyway. I'm making over the whole thing with SS pipe this weekend, cuz the intake hose is pretty cracked up and brittle. This is just so the vacuum leak doesn't eff with my AFR in the meantime.

I'm curious as to why you would tap there for a vacuum port?

I wouldn't do SS pipe. It'll heatsoak like crazy.

Nah, that's the factory vacuum port to the a/c idle-up that I had to repair. I had no say in the design.

You're saying I should probably just use a 2.75" silicone hose instead though?

Wouldn't silicone suffer more from heat than ss?

I think in the long run you should use an aluminium bend and weld the nipple.

^^^ For strength, I'd prefer that.

But would heat soak really be an issue with such a short length of SS?
And even if silicone would be more of an issue than the SS, I'd be using silicone couplers anyway.

Did it locally in my driveway lol

I decided to go with piping. It's stronger and I figure the intake air is passing through too fast to be significantly warmed up, annnd the airbox over the ITBs is metal too and gets hella hot, so any heat soak reduction measures are moot anyway.

It'll make a nice Saturday morning DIY project. So instead of looking for a guy to weld the barbs, I'll just drill and tap them myself.
A 45° elbow, two vacuum barbs, some couplers and hose clamps, and a couple celebratory beers in the fridge.

depending on the thickness of the aluminum bend..... it may be too thin to tap and hold any threads
if it cant, get an aluminum barb, and vibes any radiator or a/c shop to weld it off for you

At least seal the barn with epoxy to ensure no leaks

any a/c shop will be able to use aluminum brazing rods and gas to weld
even a radiator shop

if u want the real deal check abdools, eastern machine shop etc
