Why Enkei RPF1?

Postby COROLLA KID » July 2nd, 2015, 10:59 pm

I was just wondering if there is any particular reason why Enkei RPF1 is so popular.
The rim itself is not all that good looking to me. It's just a personal opinion, so I hope nobody's offended.

Maybe cause it's one of the strongest cast rims Pound for pound, as well as being among some of the lightest

oorr I thought it was the "it" rimz now,
cause it always seems to have a one certain type of wheel everybody does run down just because everybody putting it on they car
there was a time Volk te37's was the "it" wheel to have
then there was the advan and GTR wheels that everybody was running down...

I know it very lightweight and strong, its been around for some time now
there's also a bunch of other wheels with the same weight and strength out there too

Thats why i was wondering if the popularity is because its the new fad in the automotive scene or maybe if it was the most affordable light weight wheels out now, whats the price BTW?

A legit set might run you nearly 10k with decent rubber.

The TE37s wasn't/isn't really a fad. Just like everything else, the knockoff market kind of ruined it. In this case the Rota Grid came along.

The RPF1 is at least 10years old so it's been around for some time. It probably hasn't been knocked off so much because it's function over form and the ricers didn't seem to take to it well.

Don't ever bad talk RPF1 .... It's beautiful because it's not trying to be beautiful. It's the anti- rice track wheel. Purely functional

It's lightweight, inexpensive (for a proper wheel) available in just about any size to suit almost any car. Yes there are other lightweight options but pricewise, quality and the sizing options are some of the widest around. Another good option are 6UL but only Miata guys n a few racers know what they are. But with them the size options are limited. Team dynamics pro race 1.2 are also inexpensive option but td aren't popular and when u get to speedline bbs etc prices begin to shoot up

currently considering this rim tbh...my other rim considerations were enkei EV5 and enkei SR6 but sadly they don't come in 16's

reasons why it so popular. - listed in any order -
1. convenience - its made in almost every size & bolt pattern and offset
2. strength very strong
3. weight - very light.
4.cost - well not soo much the cost- but a genuine set is usually desirable.
5. maintenance -easy to clean / customize paint or powder coat

lastly OP, instead of asking why enkei RPF1 why not give alternatives.

I'm currently looking for a set of NEW 16 inch rims 4X114 spacing +45 offset lightweight and strong plus something that make from a well known manufacturer than stands behind their product.

what other brands / models would you recommend that meet that criteria..??

While there are those with genuine TE37s...I don't think there are that much cause at over 400us for one. .. not many people willing to put that kinda money into the understated look of that rim.

As to the 16" rim...There are a couple of reasons
Not everyone can be twenty inches strong...
More rubber between rim and road means more comfort
Less rim means less overall unsprung weight which means the suspension doesn't have to work as hard.
You have to determine the balance you want.
I believe the RPF1 is Enkei's lightest consumer wheel
