WTK: Upholstery Repair

Postby Rory Phoulorie » May 8th, 2017, 6:55 am

The seat in my car is one of those half leather half fabric type seats. The fabric section in the seat has a top layer of mesh fabric stuck on to a base layer of fabric. I have noticed a small section of the mesh section has become unstuck and has lifted off. I have included a photograph of the affected section of the seat fabric.

What is the best way to repair this section of the mesh? What type of adhesive should I use to re-stick the mesh layer to the base fabric? I have seen some spray adhesives in the local hardwares, but I am afraid that if I use this adhesive, that when the glue dries, the fabric will become rock hard in the area where I stuck it.

Any advice on the best way to repair this would be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you.

Any adhesive will make a mess.

If it were me, i would nicely ask the wifey to run some strands of similar color thread on the corners of the little blocks so as to lightly stitch the mesh back on to the base fabric.

If you handy with a needle, you can skip the wifey part.

That is actually a very good idea. I am quite self reliant, so I can handle the stitching myself.
