Power sterring hose kinking, problem solved.

Postby nervewrecker » January 22nd, 2018, 5:54 pm

I am trying to route the low pressure hose from the pump to the reservoir and the hose keeps kinking. Looked around for a 90 degree fitting and couldn't get one to cut and join the line. My question is if I can use a piece of copper line like ac units use and make the bend with that. Is there anything wrong with using copper despite it being soft?

Would have posted in the tech forum but things a bit slow in there. A week noe tge car parked up. I wanna drive.

Thanks

The engine flexes while the reservoir is fixed... Will have issues eventually

Just to make the 90 fitting? No issue except minor chance of blow out as the copper will have no barbs, but is the low pressure side, just make it long enough to go into the hose.

It has a length of hose on each side to flex.

Ill try it and see.

Low pressure line is not a problem. Don't use copper though. Get a bend from a steel line like an old power steering line or something and put a flare on the end .

Any reason to not use copper? Im very iffy, its soft. Next thing the hose clip damage it and fluid start leaking.

If I can get aluminium self that can work. I have a 5/8" pipe bender.

Or just get the 90 deg barbed brass fitting

as a short term solution yes u can use it... long term no...

as racedriverpro pointed out... theres supposed to be a lil flex in the line so if theres not enough - it may burst

if u wanna do copper be sure theres barbs on the ends and enough copper going into the hose on either end.

also copper may react with the hot power steering fluid - chemical reaction..and getting corrosion stuff on ur power steering pump internals is not a good idea.

for a temp fix.... go for it.... permanent fix.... new line.

Might work depending on how tight the bend is and the space available... braided would made a wide 90 degree from my experience...dont want it to tight since it would transfer tension to the ends...

I now think up a good solution. I have hoses on my hydraulic equipment that have a spring over the hoses to prevent them from kinking and also protects them . Will put a pic just now.

nerve if you want a braided line you can buy a new after market braided line to replace the damaged line - but its gonna be a long wait

another alternative is to remove d hose a let trinidad hose make a braided line for u - only thing is i dunno if they have braid in stock as they didnt hav wen i went - late las yr - december.

if you goin that trinidad hose route just tell them u want the same ID / OD as the original piece with the same bends and fittings ...and they will do it.. but they dont giv guarantee on their work.

If you had time, could have checked a scrap yard.

Would have given the fitting if it wasn't for the intake I have up for sale.

First pic is 5/8 and accepts hose on both ends (no pun intended) and may be suited for the angles u dealing with

Well if u don't find a solution I have extras in those parts and the first pic is nullified by just using one piece of push lock from reservoir to pump on the legacy. The original hoses gets hard over time and when they do it's time to upgrade to never done hose.
