Need advice on rust/corrosion Headlight Restoration

Postby zorced » March 20th, 2019, 6:36 pm

Hey 2NRS, as titled I'm seeking advice to fix this (and prevent in future).

The vehicle is an AE101 Sprinter Marino and I have noticed this occurrence on several other Marinos.

So far I've changed one side to a foreign used one in great condition and noticed the re-occurrence in a matter of months.

At this point I can't find anymore headlights or nose cuts for this car so I would like to try to fix them.

I'm thinking of opening up the headlights and seeing where needs a nice gentle clean up and after that re-coat the corroded reflective areas.

Re-coating them is the grey area for me right now as I'm not sure what options we have in Trinidad. Some form of metalizing would be ideal once the price is reasonable, but a high heat resistant reflective chrome paint might do the trick too if such a thing exists.

What are your thoughts?

This is what they look like new:

and this is a picture of the rust/corrosion on mine (and this is the better side):
