Thermostat changeout?

Postby mrreaz » March 27th, 2019, 11:10 am

Hi,

Need some advice - is there a specific mileage by which a vehicle's thermostat should be replaced?

you should consult your owners manual - it will give specific intervals for changing all fluids - engine oil- transmission oil brake fluid and coolant.

in the absence of any sort of owners manual - its usually engine coolant is replaced every 2 yrs or 50,000kms or so -
my advice is to replace it one time when youre replacing your coolant.

buy back the OEM thermostat - they're designed to fail in the open position - if they do fail.
same goes for the rad cap.

dont forget to bleed the radiator properly.

good luck.
