Gearshift not coming out of park

Postby Nicknacks » November 8th, 2018, 8:31 pm

Goodnight everyone
I just purchased a 2009 Nissan Bluebird Sylphy from Japan. Any have it using for the second day. Now I developed a problem tonite where I can't get the gearshift out of the park position. The car starts perfect but cannot shift the gearshift.
Can someone please help me with advise as what is the problem?

Please note that I am living in St.Vincent.

Thanks in advance

Most modern cars need to have the ignition on before the shifter can be moved.
Too, you need to depress the brake.
Check to see if the brake switch is working.
Put the ignition on, step on the brake and let someone see if the brake light is coming on at the rear of the car.

Too, there is a solenoid that unlocks the shifter.
It makes a noise near the shifter when you depress the brake.
Bend down, so that your ear can be near the shifter.
Step on the brakes on and off.
If you hear no sound, the brake switch or the solenoid is bad.

Check fuses too.

Peace.
RR.

Thanks for the informations. I got the problem solved. According to the mechanic, It was the brake light switch that malfunctioned resulting in it not sending a signal to the gearshift solenoid to identify that the brake pedal was pressed.

The switch was changed and the problem solved.
