Car not passing 120kmh

Postby Graphix1 » March 17th, 2011, 7:35 pm

Sr-20de with a 4 speed cable tranny

1st and 2nd building speed but when i reach 3rd the rpm just stays there and the speed doesn't build any more,if i kick down to 4th it starts back to move a little but no further than 120.

this started to happen a while after i used cheap tranny oil, don't know if this caused it of if there could be another reason but i changed the oil again and put castrol but no difference...

if the tranny damaged, no matter what oil u used it wont work, is the tranny slipping at all? i.e. over revving? what rpm are you at while doing 120?

Check your exhaust system. It is possible that you have plugging in your cat converter, resonator or silencer.

last night i popped the bonnet and the ring around the oxygen sensor was red hot,i also believe the seal on the exhaust is leaking cause if i rev i see smoke coming from behind the shield if front of the block....not sure if that has something to do with it...

It is normal to see parts of the exhaust manifold red hot if the bonnet is popped in a dark area, after hard running. Temperatures can exceed 500 deg. F.
But I have seen plugged catalyst cartridges, and plugged silencers hold back cars while you are "X to board". Man, you could get out and run faster than the car !

RR.
